Movie Preview: Toy Story 3

Back in April we got a taste of Toy Story 3 with this little teaser, but that was nothing compared to the full-length trailer. It doesn't take much more than Randy Newman's voice and a few flashbacks to Andy's life with Woody, Buzz, and the gang to remind me how Pixar can be so damn emotionally manipulative - in the best way, of course.

In the movie's third installment, little Andy is all grown up and heading off to college. Like most of us, he's abandoned his childhood treasures for more grown-up toys (like an over-stickered laptop). Overcome with the fear of being chucked (or getting sold on eBay), Woody, Buzz, and their tiny toy army find themselves in an even worse predicament - a kid's daycare center. The original film still stands tall among my Pixar favorites, and there's something so comforting about hearing all those celebrity voices again. Considering how well the Toy Story 1 & 2 3-D double feature is doing at the box office right now, I won't be alone when the movie hits theaters next Summer.

Even Teen Burglars Have Soft Spots For Babies

Tonight on the 6 'clock news - thieves feeding babies. Sounds crazy but that's what happened to a family in Indianapolis. While two high school students were robbing a house, a baby started to cry. Either out of the kindness of his heart or his desire to hush the baby (I'm putting my money on the latter), the 18-year-old thief warmed up a bottle of milk and allowed another child in the house to feed the wailing babe. Unfortunately the rest of the story is not so delightful. He held a gun to the head of the father of the family and threatened to kill him. In the end, it was his aunt who turned him in to the authorities. Thankfully everyone is safe and sound, especially that scared baby.

What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue. Oh and even though it's not on Netflix, don't forget that Ally McBeal: The Complete Series is finally available on DVD today!

Year One

The comedy chops of Michael Cera and Jack Black weren't enough to make prehistoric comedy Year One a hit, but the movie still has some laughs, especially if you're fans of the two actors.

The gross-out humor definitely wore on me, but the funny supporting cast might make it worth the rental (Paul Rudd, Hank Azaria, and David Cross all make cameos) - if you can stand all the toilet humor.

Anvil! The Story of Anvil

Anvil! The Story of Anvil became a surprising sleeper hit, thanks in large part to word of mouth (aka Twitter). The documentary centers around Canadian heavy metal band Anvil, who may have been little known to the public, but actually went on to influence other popular acts like Metallica. Metallica even shows up in the movie to talk about the band.

The movie was beloved by critics (check that Rotten Tomatoes rating!) and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award.

Assassination of a High School President

Bruce Willis and Mischa Barton star in Assassination of a High School President, a comedy/crime caper set in a high school. The film made a splash at last year's Sundance Film Festival, but then kind of faded away when it came to a theatrical release . . . no matter, because it's on Netflix now.

I was intrigued by the trailer for this movie and will probably check it out, especially since it has Rocket Science's cute protagonist, Reece Thompson.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Is Worth Checking Out

Sure, I have my favorites when it comes to DS games: Rhythm Heaven, New Super Mario Bros., and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, to name a few. Mario games in general have got to be my all-time faves, but I am always skeptical that new additions to the SMB family won't deliver the same adventurous and skillful levels.

Well according to CNET, Nintendo's Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story ($34), which just hit store shelves a couple of weeks ago, is the next best thing to New Super Mario Bros. 2. The third installment in the Mario and Luigi role-playing games, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story offers challenging puzzles, as players are in charge of two separate storylines.

I'm really looking forward to taking it for a test drive to see if it lives up to all the hype!

My sister still calls her kids' Wii "The Wii Machine" and my mom once sent all her information to her "bank" - which was of course, a scam. As scary as that experience is for anyone, she was able to stop anything from happening. Of course I can laugh at it now because all I remember is my mom calling me to tell me she got "hacked! I got hacked!"

These are the kind of stories we need in the Funny Tech Stories Group! I know you've got some great gems to share, and it's not limited to your loved ones - ever done anything embarrassing, tech-wise? Maybe you thought Ubuntu was the name of an ethnic restaurant, or wasted hours of your time when you got your first iPod trying to figure out how to get the songs off the device and onto a computer (my brilliant brother-in-law even did this). Come Story Telling With Me! The Completed Story

Thanks to everyone who pitched in on this week's Come Story Telling With Me. And now for the completed story!

"Honey, will you please pack my shampoo and conditioner in your suitcase so I don't have to check my luggage?"

"You know we have to be there two hours early for departure and we still haven't called the cab yet."

"A cab, I thought you said you got a car service to pick us up!?"

"I was going to, but it's the holidays, they were all fully booked, and why was everything my job? I booked the flights, I got the transfers, all you did was . . . well, nothing!" He snatches the shampoo and conditioner from her and stuffs it into his bag. "Are you ready now, or have you got another three bags for your shoes and all your other girly crap?"

"Girly crap? Perhaps you'd like me to narrow it down to one suitcase so I can dress like your mother. After all, that seems to be what you need these days. Can we please just enjoy this? Forget the car service, I'll drive us just as soon as I tie your shoes and make sure your socks match."

Rick looked down at his shoes to find that one was untied and he had mismatched socks on. Julie looked him right in the eyes and tried not to crack a smile.

What Julie didn't know was that they were staying at an all-inclusive resort, and she probably wasn't going to wear most of what she brought. See, it was a surprise - she thought she was going to visit his family in Colorado.

"Don't forget your swimsuit," he said. "Remember, the hotel has a sauna, pool, and hot tub! Nothing's too good for my Julie!"

But really, he had switched the reservations for the trip to Colorado and booked a new trip to Jamaica.

"Thank you for calling American Airlines. How can I help you?"

"Hi, I'd like to make a change in reservations please. I'd like to go to Jamaica."

"That'll be an extra $250 a ticket. What method of payment will you be using today?"

Rick fumbled around in his wallet, knowing his Visa was maxed because of the engagement ring he bought Julie yesterday. "Do you take American Express?"

The journey to Jamaica was like something out of James Bond, with Rick trying desperately to keep Julie in the dark about what was going on. He managed to talk loudly over any announcements about the destination and sat back, his grin as smug as the cat who got the cream, knowing that this Christmas would be their best yet. They wouldn't be suffering through Brussels sprouts, bad TV, and bickering; instead there would be sun, sand, and scandalous debauchery that would give him memories to distract himself during work for a year.

As they landed he took her hand and gently rubbed her palm with his thumb as they waited for their luggage.

"It's awfully hot in here," Julie complained, as she kept an eye out for the luggage.

"Pay attention to the game!" Rick urged, not wanting her to catch on just yet.

"What game?" She laughed softly.

"The luggage game, the excitement of whether it's your bag or not your bag but someone's whose looks similar . . . diving for it when it comes . . . " He replied somewhat distractedly as he looked everywhere but at the bags.

"Are you on something? Cabin pressure makes you odd or - ooh! our bags!" Julia leaped forward and with Rick's help dragged it off the belt. Checking everything was in order and accounted for, they walked out of the airport right into the bright sunshine and the calypso dancers welcoming them. Rick turned to see Julie's face, wanting to memorize this moment.

Julie looked confused. The look that Rick loved! Her eyebrows raised and there was a crinkle in between them. Then he just stared at her. Her lips began to curl as she realized that she would have a week without anyone except Rick!

Website of the Day: It Made My Day

Sometimes, you just need a little digital pick-me-up, and today I'm here to bring you exactly that. Today's installment of Website of the Day is not only endlessly entertaining but may even give you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.
