The New York Times article "Does This Song Match My Sofa?" reports on homeowners who hire DJs to make custom mixes that coordinate with different rooms of their homes. One music stylist said, “Our clients are the type who send people all over the world to find the perfect spoon, or doorknob or type of marble. . . . My job is to find the perfect music.”

Fab Blab: Angelina Jolie's Stylist Dishes on Her Custom-Made Versace Dress

A while back, I interviewed Angelina Jolie's stylist Jennifer Rade. I recently ran into her again at a Marciano event, and she had lots more to say about "Angie." Jen had just flown in from NYC, where she worked with Angelina on her Changeling red carpet look. She and the actress dreamed up the custom-made Versace LBD together. So why did Angelina play it safe? Jen explained that while most people only have a strong eye, a strong jawline, or a strong lip, Angelina has them all.

Therefore, she wears minimal, classic clothing that lets her features shine. Makes sense. Jen has suggested frillier frocks to her client, but to no avail. She even pulled a colorful cocktail dress from the closest rack and we agreed it would be too busy for Angelina. Now if only the actress had been there to put in her two cents!

Designer Spotlight: Laurence Pasquier

Pasquier also collaborates with various trend studios to advise companies on their creative endeavors, positioning brands and analyzing growing trends, translating her observations into attainable style. Designer Spotlight: Sam Moiler

Today's Designer Spotlight is actually an editorial and advertising stylist by the name of Sam Moiler. Sam has a wonderful portfolio of interior work, in addition to fashion and ad campaign work. Based in Sydney, she has worked for some of Australia's most noted companies, including Mazda, Sportsgirl, Westfield, and Mushroom Records. She has been a regular contributor to Good Living, Real Living, Domain, and the Sydney Magazine. After years of working for the Sydney Morning Herald, she is now focusing on her freelance career — and doing a heck of a job of it, I might add! In the past couple of years, celebrity stylists like Rachel Zoe have really been thrust into the limelight. But the position has been around since the '30s, and the job description typically covers much more than making sure an actress looks Fab on the red carpet.

Stylist: The Interpreters of Fashion, $48, by Sarah Mower, examines the role of stylists in fashion - from overseeing a magazine's photo shoot to organizing a designer's runway show.

It spotlights 16 stylists, including Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld and Vogue creative director Grace Coddington, but omits celebrity stylists like Zoe and L'Wren Scott, who works with Nicole Kidman. Each featured stylist has their own chapter, filled with their iconic work as well as personal looks at their own lives and tastes.

This is definitely a book I will be curling up with!

Her first style guide, Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, & Everything Glamour, $17, comes out in October. Inside, Zoe aims to divulge some of her fashion insider tips on "the must-have accessories and wardrobe staples for all occasions, when to splurge and save on handbags and heels, how to decorate, entertain, and travel in style." Sounds good to me!
