What to Expect on the High Street Next Spring

Attending catwalk shows and reporting back is always exciting, but when you see the High Street interpretations it gives you an idea of how the trends will really manifest. Yesterday, Arcadia held their Spring press day which presented the items due to hit store from January 2010. Although I can't show you any images just yet (patience is a virtue!) I wanted to tell you a bit about what to expect.

First up, I checked out Miss Selfridge which was very girly. It was divided in to two key trends; neutrals and '90s florals. There were nude shades covered in sequins for flapper style dresses with subtle jacquard floral prints and delicate feminine fabrics. These were contasted against bright, floral prints, grungey designs and '90s boho.

Next up was Topshop, which is always the most trend driven of the High Street stores. They split the Spring collection in to four key themes; body armour, la latina, meadow and techno traveller. Body armour was my favourite part with sportswear inspired designs and '90s column maxi dresses. La latina is the high Summer collection with bright fun prints, whilst meadow is a bit more subdued with soft floral prints. Finally, techno traveller will appeal to festival fans as pieces were bright, cheerful with embellishment and fringing.

Nicole Richie's Maternity Now Available at A Pea in the Pod!

Go bohemian chic with babe - Nicole Richie's maternity designs just hit the racks at A Pea in the Pod! The exclusive line, "Nicole," allows expectant mamas to mimic the celeb's signature style. Pregnant women will find 14 pieces designed by Richie, including a flowy peasant top, maxi dresses, and tees with asymetric hems and braiding (ranging from $50 to $150) that showcase a mama-to-be's cuves. Richie explained:

“You really feel like you have to change your whole wardrobe. And that’s the last thing a woman wants to go through. So I really tried to make this line to get women excited about wearing clothes.”

Already mother to Harlow, Richie is expecting her second child with partner Joel Madden later this Summer. She starred in the ad campaign for the apparel, which will only be available through the end of the year. Check out all the items!

Look of the Day: Summer Blues

Nicole Richie Brings Hippie-Chic Styles to Pea in the Pod

Next month expectant women who are fans of hippie-chic styles can move beyond vintage clothing stores to a new shopping resource. Known for her Bohemian baby-bump style, Nicole Richie is working with A Pea in the Pod on a collection of maxi dresses, tops, and bottoms that reflect her fashion sensibilities.

The mother to Harlow and a second babe due this Summer is also the face of the line, having played model at a recent ad photo shoot. Pregnant ladies will have to gather up the garments fast since the collection will only be available from August through January.

Baby Bump: More of Me Maternity

While most women are pulling lighter clothes out of their closets in anticipation of warmer weather, mamas-to-be due in Summer and Fall are searching for the ultimate items to take them through the rest of their pregnancies. More of Me Maternity's dresses and tunics are designed to do just that. Their "Take It to The Maxi" dress ($249) mimics the maxi dress trend seen on non-pregnant pals, but is made from 100% Modal knit, ensuring it remains soft and comfortable through multiple washings. It even features wide straps and a "modesty panel" across the back to hide the supportive bras we need during those nine months. Designed by DC-native, and former politico Jessica Boulanger, the line also includes shorter styles that can be worn as shirts or dresses.

Matthew Williamson For H&M Burns Through Foggy San Fran

Breathe in, breathe out. This was me last night when trying to fall asleep. You know when you're so excited for something insomnia ensues and obsession overpowers? You all know I've been anticipating Matthew Williamson's H&M collection since the news broke, but I didn't expect to turn groupie . . .
Rise and shine, join the line at the Powell Street H&M. The line was only about eight stylistas deep at this point. PartySugar, also a MW groupie, joined me around 7:30 a.m. - store opens at 10. But something had been brewing behind Fab's scenes, I just didn't want to jinx anything. And then, the fashion gods looked down upon me, and I got the email - I was granted early press access. Not to shop mind you, but to enter the store (this was about 9ish), survey the scene, try things on, take pics, and revel in MWHM. I already had my wish list, as did Party, so you can imagine our elation.

The West Coast district manager, Alexis, dished on how she thought this was the most commercially viable designer collection. Agreed. She was gaga over the leather jacket and the hot pink gold-studded belt. Interestingly, this SF store gets more stock of the designer goods than LA's Beverly Center store; who said SF didn't love to shop? We also chatted about Phase II - the Summer collection, hitting stores May 14. Alexis promised hot bikinis and a fresh geometric print overnight bag (stay tuned for pics!). I had to ask if Missoni for H&M is up next and she replied "no comment" which leads me to think it's true since the news broke just yesterday and she knew what I was talking about, sneaky Fab.

We were able to hang tight inside the store, out of the fog, but still not shop, until doors opened at 10 a.m. But our plans of attack were in place. And like that - mayhem. This was my first time really tolerating this. I missed the first collection, Karl Lagerfeld, slept through Stella McCartney, slacked on Viktor & Rolf, cried post Roberto Cavalli, and gave up on Commes de Garcons. But not Matthew. This was my H&M collection. And so, I raced though the racks plucking my new babies, calm as a clam.

The dramatic ruffled print maxi dress was the first to go. And in person, this one was amazing; the black sequined detailing was divine. The short version of this was a hot one, too. And as celebrities still work their PR magic, the sequined artsy dress worn by Ginnifer Goodwin and the peacock dress modeled by both Nicky Hilton and Katy Perry were gone in no time. None of these screamed Fab. I added the glam rockin' blue blazer, the yellow embroidered top, the pink feathered cardigan, the butterfly tee, and the hot pink studded belt to my arsenal.

Baby Bump: Spring Maternity Dresses

One of the benefits of being pregnant through Spring and Summer is the plethora of comfortable, loose dresses to cover my expanding belly. No need to decide between over-the-belly or under-the-belly pant panels, dresses speed up the morning dressing routine by eliminating the need to assemble outfits.

Taking their cue from the runway trends, this season's maternity dresses embrace everything from the maxi style seen here in the Gap's smocked empire dress, to colorblock trends to perennial maternity favorites such as wraps and florals.

On Our Radar: Richard Nicoll for Topshop

Richard Nicoll presented his Autumn line yesterday at London Fashion Week and his designs are always lusted after by the A list. Unfortunately, most of us don't necessarily have the budget for his main line which is why collaborations like this are so important. His Spring collection for Topshop has the essence of his main line, with colour blocking, feminine pieces and sharp tailoring but at a fraction of the price. I particularly like the grey and blue maxi dress which would be great in the Summer with a big hat, and the sailor dress which I would wear to an outdoor party or wedding. What do you think of the collaboration?

Trend Alert: Dip Dyed Maxis

The maxi has proven to be a favorite Summer dress, especially amongst the starlets. But there are so many fabulous styles to choose from. Dip dyed maxis are both comfortable and unique. These are ideal for the gal with a drop of bohemia in her blood. Who knew Jessica Alba was a hippie-loving mom?
