Angelina Is Behind the Wheel, in Front of the Camera

Angelina Jolie took her SUV for a spin yesterday in LA. Unlike Brad's love of motorcycles, when Angelina cruises solo, she seems to prefer the safety of the driver's seat. They were out for a weekend drive together, along with Zahara and a baseball-cap wearing Shiloh. Angelina and her family are hunkering down in LA as she gears up to promote projects and get down to work on new ones. The trailer for Salt just came out, and Angelina's upcoming film The Tourist is locking down a leading man - they're looking to sign Johnny Depp, who's been enjoying some time in California as well.

Is It the End For the SUV?

As drivers continue to unload their leased SUVs back to dealerships, it's apparent that driving a gas guzzler is no longer acceptable to many Americans. The intentions may not be environmentally driven, but if extreme gas prices are what it takes to cut down on gas consumption it can be seen as a positive side effect to what is otherwise a painful pump reality.

General Motors is so desperate to rid their jam-packed lots that are cluttered with SUVs, they are offering interest-free loans for six years to buyers of large models like SUVs and pickups. The promotion is set to last until June 30, so if you're in the market for a car that requires a lot of gas now is your opportunity!

Do you think the fact that gas prices are projected to continually rise will mean that nonhybrid SUVs will eventually become extinct, or that people will always find a reason to keep their big wheels? Are any of you SUV owners considering trading in for a smaller model?

Unlicensed to Drive: Three-Year-Old Crashes SUV

The next time your tot says he's going for a ride, don't take it too lightly. A three-year-old Missouri boy who could barely see over the dashboard let alone reach the pedals, took his mama's SUV for a short and unintentional joyride or rather, joy roll. According to a report, when the mother's dismissal of her son's passing words had a smashing outcome. It said:

After telling his mother he was “going bye-bye,” the boy carried the SUV’s keys to the vehicle and evidently turned the ignition key far enough to allow the vehicle’s transmission to slip into neutral.

The car rolled backward until it hit a fence and neighboring home.

Pricey Country Roads: Gas Prices Hit Rural Americans Harder

Americans everywhere are shocked and stressed as gas reaches the all-time high with the national average at $4 per gallon. But, common outrage does not mean common hardship. High gas prices impact rural USA the worst.

Those living outside cities are facing tough decisions, especially in the Southeast where public transportation is lacking and commute distances are sprawling. For farm workers, sports-utility vehicles actually have some utility; but, it's much more costly to fill up pick-up trucks and vans. To adjust, some are cutting back on meat, others are borrowing money for gas, and some are searching for scarce jobs closer to home.

Faraway from rural America, Saudi Arabia is calling for a summit on astronomical oil prices. The Saudi Information and Culture Minister said that the kingdom wants to ensure that there are no unwarranted or unnatural oil price hikes that could impact international economies, especially those of developing countries.

Perhaps oil producers like Saudi Arabia are worried that high prices will force people to reduce their demand. Hearing about the struggles in rural America, it's difficult to imagine how consumers won't try to kick their oil addiction as soon as possible.

The body of a boy matching the description of Jennifer Hudson's 7-year-old missing nephew was found in her deceased brother's SUV this morning. Arizona Man Runs Down Daughter For Being "Too Westernized"

Yesterday, we discussed some of the challenges children of immigrants face trying to deal with clashing cultural values, but the following case is extreme.

Police are still looking for a Peoria, AZ, man originally from Iraq who allegedly ran down his daughter and her friend with his SUV to punish her for becoming "too Westernized."

Faleh Hassan Almaleki ran down his daughter Noor and her friend Amal Edan Khalaf in a parking lot on Tuesday, resulting in his daughter's hospitalization for life-threatening injuries while Khalaf, whose injuries were less severe, is also in the hospital.

This is paternalism at its worst. I have an Iranian-American friend who is having similar culture clash issues with her father, but he's a gentle and wonderful person who is trying to understand her and keep lines of communication open. I hope the women recover and that Noor and her father can reach some sort of understanding with each other eventually.

Victoria Works in London While David Plays in LA

Victoria Beckham flew out of LA last weekend and headed over to London, where she's been logging long hours at the offices of 19 Management. She left via SUV late last night, and this morning she returned armed with Starbucks. David, meanwhile, is back home in LA prepping for Halloween, but took a break to get dinner yesterday at the Saddle Ranch with his Galaxy teammates. Posh is rumored to be gearing up for a return to reality TV with a potential stint as a guest judge on the BBC's So You Think You Can Dance. The potential Spice Girls reunion also may involve the small screen, as the five ladies are apparently considering hosting a show to find actresses who could play them onstage.

30 Percent Increase in Women Getting DUIs

Although men still outnumber women in drunk driving arrests by four to one, a report by the FBI for the National Highway Traffic Safety Commission shows that in the decade ending 2007, there has been a 30 percent increase in women getting arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Are women under more pressure for being the sole breadwinner in a he-cession? Are television shows encouraging them to drink more? Does motherhood drive them to drink? Maybe we'll see more PSAs about women and drinking, especially after the horrific accident recently in which a woman who was found later to have been drunk, drove her minivan the wrong way down a freeway, crashing into an SUV and killing eight people.

Laura Dean-Moody, president of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and a widow because a drunk driver killed her husband in 1991, thinks there should be stricter enforcement of drunk driving laws. More than 2 million drivers who have multiple DUI convictions will be on the road this upcoming Labor Day weekend. Moody doesn't think they should be able to keep their licenses: "These are people who have proven not once, not twice but three times that they are not worthy of the public's trust when it comes to operating a vehicle."

Justin and Jessica Have Gone to the Dogs

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were in their workout clothes Saturday to walk her dogs in LA. After the stroll they hopped into their SUV, which is a little more pet-friendly than JT's other recent mode of transportation. He and Jessica parted ways the next day, when she caught a flight from LAX and he headed out to play his favorite sport. It hasn't been too restful a Summer for Jessica with her stage obligations or Justin with his business travels, and things won't let up anytime soon as he readies for his next film project hitting screens this month.
