When I was a kid, a trip to the mall was not complete without a visit to Spencer's Gifts, home of all things tacky and strange. I particularly liked its "Adults-Only" section, which seemed, ironically, to house sex toys that seemed invented by children. Edible undies? Glow-in-the-dark handcuffs? Even then, my innocent little brain was all "WTF?!" It still boggles my mind that "special sex night" for some people might involve a visit to Spencer's and other such venues. So just for you, dear readers, I braved the wild, wild world of tacky sex toys and products on the Internet, and brought back products dumb and unsexy enough to inspire you never to have sex again. Mommy Dearest: Give a Second Hand Gift at Shower?

Mommy Dearest,

I've got a baby shower dilemma. My cousin's baby shower is in two weeks and I'm pretty close to her. She's not a picky person, and often shops at second hand stores. I'm getting her a bunch of stuff, but considered going to the second hand store for the cradle she wants. It costs $500 for a new one, but this reputable store has it for $150. I mentioned this to a friend who told me that she felt a second hand gift was very tacky and while it'd be ok to give it to my cousin before or after the shower, it was inappropriate as a shower gift. I know my cousin would appreciate it, and was going to use the cradle as the box for the other gifts. What do you think?

It sounds like you know your cousin best and since she already shops at second hand stores, I don't see anything tacky about you buying her the cradle there as long as it's in good structural condition for the baby's safety. The idea of using it as a box for additional goodies sounds like a darling presentation for a generous gift. If your cousin wants a brand new cradle for her child, she can always spring for one herself. Let's let the lilsugar readers weigh in.

The package has your name on it and it's wrapped in pretty paper, and the item inside is something that's generally likable. It may not scream your taste, but it's the thought that counts, right? There are two arguments surrounding regifting: One that thinks it's a prudent time-saver, and one that says it's tacky.

Barbara Bitela, author of The Art of Regifting is among the supporters and said, "It's not really the price tag but the generosity in your heart when you step up to the plate, take the time to wrap it, put someone's name on it, smile and present it." Lizzie Post of the Emily Post Institute disagrees that regifting is acceptable and said, "I don't think just because the economy's bad, it gives you a reprieve to regift. Do homemade gifts, cut back on your list and let people know you can't afford to gift this year."

Your Two Cents: Is It Better to Regift or Give Nothing at All?

It's conservative to say that wedding season can be costly when usually it's ridiculously expensive. Sometimes we receive gifts that may not be suitable for our tastes, but when it comes to regifting Steve Kemble, star of Style Network's Whose Wedding Is It Anyway? and Married Away says, "What makes you think someone is going to want a gift you did not want? Plain and simple, regifting is tacky! If you do not have the time to think about what a couple would really want then don't give anything at all."

For some people regifting is more about not being able to afford a new gift than being thoughtless, but would it really be better to give nothing at all?
