2010 Spring New York Fashion Week: Marchesa

Sometimes it's not a hard decision. This was my favorite gown at Marchesa. Done. Why is it always the purple one? While we ponder that, also notice the hand-painted floral tattoo hosiery - pretty cool. And those are custom Louboutins, in case you were wondering. Marchesa was inspired by "the drama and romance of Madame Butterfly," and the red-carpet-ready creations were therefore embellished with handmade origami and sculptured beauty. Beaded flowers and contrasting colors added intrigue, while the palette went from soft mint and lilac to black and fuchsia. Corsets supplied an erotic note. You know my fave, which is yours?

Flash App Lets You Tattoo Message on Faceless Set of Boobs

Racing game Dirt 2 launched yesterday, and to promote it, the creators decided to create a Flash app called Dirty Tats that allows you to tattoo a message - on the image of a faceless, nameless woman's breasts.

For the sake of experimentation only, I tried it out, and it was alternately creepy, infuriating, and pathetic. As I decided how I wanted to scrawl my message on a pair of boobs (lettering, text, or script), I was admonished for taking too long by the faceless torso ("I hope you're handy with a tattoo gun. I thought you were fast!") as her bosom undulated in a disconcerting way.

It may seem so obvious to call out objectification, but what else could it be when parts of a woman's body accompanied by a disembodied voice are used to promote a product that has nothing at all to do with the product itself? Well, what else besides lame, I mean.

Don't Tell Mom, the Babysitter's Inked

As a fairly laid back mom, there are few strict rules we have in our home, but one I hold steady on is using permanent markers on the furniture or themselves. I'll allow Crayola Washables around the house or finger paints in the bathtub, but Sharpies on the skin - no ma'am. I came up with this rule after my child so proudly decorated her hands with the black substance and walked around for days after with lines camouflaging her dainty fingers. When explaining the new lay of the land, I told her, "You can draw on paper, NOT on your body. No painting your body."

Having avoided any subsequent self graffiti, I hoped she understood my rationale. However, it was my babysitter who confirmed the learning for me. A lady of many tasteful tats, she texted me while my husband and I enjoyed our date day:

Ummm classic. Your daughter just saw the tattoo on my foot and told me I wasn't supposed to paint on myself and when I told her it wouldn't wipe off, she said, "Maybe you need a napkin" and brought me one. Wow. I am cracking up.

I guess our little talk worked. Now I'll just have to print this and save it for when she turns 18.

Do You Like Guys With Tattoos?

My tastes are all over the map - nerds, hippies, and, like The Bangz here - I really like boys with tattoos. Whether they're hidden under Oxfords or displayed out in the open, unless it's a tribal tattoo or mistranslated Chinese characters, I think tattoos on guys are sexy.

But to celebrate the beloved doll's 50th anniversary, Mattel has a new version out on the market that plays into pop culture - Totally Stylin' Tattoos Barbie ($20). Lil ladies can use the tat gun to position a variety of body art pieces - including a "tramp stamp" with Ken's name - on Barbie's plastic bod. What's your opinion of this product?

30 Rock on Slankets and Couples' Tattoos

On last night's 30 Rock, Liz Lemon adopts a Slanket as her loungewear of choice, after she convinces Tracy Jordan to buy his wife a better anniversary gift than a blanket with arms. But when Tracy learns what Angie really wants, he blames Lemon for forcing him to make a very difficult choice.

Depending on your relationship status, couples' tattoos can be a fine idea - or a very bad one. So here's a ridiculous choice for you: would you rather wear a Slanket, or get a tattoo with your significant other's name?

It's hard to believe that there's been a dearth of tacky things for me to ask you guys about, but it's true. Until today. I ran into a link featuring pictures of celebrity tattoos, and holy guacamole are these things tacky. The question is - what's tackier?
