Director Baz Luhrmann (Australia, Moulin Rouge, Romeo and Juliet) recently sat down for an interview with the Hollywood Reporter and opened up on all sorts of stuff — including the fact that he has acquired the rights to F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and feels that now is the perfect time for this "parable for economic disaster." Here's more:
Luhrmann sees the pre-Depression story as a wake-up call as the economy comes crashing down and another Gilded Age, as he sees it, comes to an end.

Runway shows and magazines are a great source for outfit inspiration, but every now and again, you find ideas from something unexpected. Recently I've been admiring The Great Gatsby style, so these Mod Girl Mini Mirrors ($7) immediately spoke to me. They are the perfect way to show the world my adoration for this trend.

Here is my ode to The Great Gatsby. Fashion is experiencing a throwback to the times of art deco, pleats, beading, speak-easies, and the Belle Epoque. Legendary designer Paul Poiret has been referenced and you can see his dropped hemline and flapper hats in a major way in the Proenza Schouler Fall 2007 collection.

That's it. If the president has time to read a novel, there is no viable excuse left not to. Maybe he's starting his own viral campaign for literacy?

While most of you love the blue eyeshadow trend that was revived by Proenza Schouler this summer, next spring is going to be all about a 40's wartime look with deep red lips and matte skin.
At New York Fashion Week the duo showed rock chick-meets-femme fatale clothes while the beauty look took it's cue from the World War II era with matte red pouts and polished hair. Diane Kendal created the runway look for MAC, and according to WWD she got that vamp lip look by mixing a red pigment with a neon pink sheen.

While girls wore their hair in cute bobs or wavy flapper girl style, mens hair in the 1920's was super simple. Hair was slicked back with gel for a formal look that was thought to be both masculine and also elegant. Think of The Great Gatsby or the new Brideshead Revisited film and you get the picture.

Mischa Barton, Rosamund Pike and Peaches Geldof witnessed the Temperley show at London 2009 Spring Fashion Week yesterday. The designer showed beautifully structured jackets, high-waist trousers, red-carpet worthy draped dresses, ruffled gowns and gorgeous asymmetrical cocktail frocks.
The beauty mood was dramatic as the models sported high-voltage smoky eyes in dark grey, stormy purple and coal black.

I have a Great Gatsby-esque cloche hat that I've been wearing all Winter. If you don't have one in your closet yet, try one out, like this Bloomingdales Wool Cloche Hat. It's similar to the one Diane Kruger wore recently at a New Year's party.
