Announcing the, Um, "Winners": The 2009 Razzies

On the day when we celebrate Hollywood's finest, let's also take a moment to celebrate its worst. The 2009 Razzies were presented on Saturday, dinging The Love Guru with the title of Worst Picture and putting three separate awards in Paris Hilton's hands.

Hilton was named both Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress, plus she nabbed a share of Worst Screen Couple for The Hottie and the Nottie. Meanwhile, The Love Guru ended up with three total awards as well, adding Worst Actor and Worst Screenplay to its haul. Amazingly, The Happening emerged unscathed, despite its four nominations.

The Results Are In: The Worst Movie of 2008

Oh, Paris Hilton: What would we do without you on Giggle? The readers have voted, and your big movie project this year also happens to be our worst movie of 2008. That would be The Hottie and the Nottie, which has a tagline that incorporates your personal catchphrase: "That's Hot."

Hottie was a clear first-place winner with 43 percent of the votes, but Mike Myers's The Love Guru also had a (dis)respectable showing.

Pop Preview: The Hottie and the Nottie

I had the pleasure, or should I say confusion, of watching Paris Hilton's new film The Hottie and the Nottie last night. It's a classic (or rather, clichéd) ugly duckling tale, mixed with some serious gross-out humour that made me want to vomit. Seriously.

I wasn't expecting to be wowed, but there was one surprising positive: Paris wasn't as awful in her role of the Hottie as I feared. But as Fab UK pointed out, she is essentially playing herself and how hard could that be?

What I found confusing, however, was that the film didn't seem to know what it was. Yes it was a gross-out comedy, yes it had a saccharine twist, but it also hinted at being a parody of such films without fully convincing me that it was that self-aware.

There are some crazy moments where the microphone sneaks into shot, which got the loudest laughs of the entire screening. While some of the journalists were convinced it was poor editing, I was fairly sure it was a deliberate self-referential undermining of the film, maybe in an attempt to claw back some credibility. But maybe I'm being too generous ...

As you can see from the LA premiere, the Nottie (Christine Lakin) is in reality quite the Hottie, and I don't think it'll be too shocking when I say the film involves a certain transformation and ending that is signalled pretty much from the beginning.

I find the whole idea of these films, like She's All That, pretty worrying to be honest: while they purport to be championing the theory "it's what's inside that counts" there always has to be an external prettying up to create the happy ending.

When our girl Pop US asked if you were interested in the movie last December, the vast majority of you said you'd rather leave it. Now that it's coming to our shores (the UK release date is 28 March), are any of you tempted to give it a try?

The Nottie Is Hotter Than Well, The Hottie

Last night was the LA premiere of Paris Hilton's new movie, The Hottie and The Nottie. We've been seeing her make the promotional rounds including a night out with her co-star, Christine Lakin, in full costume with her not hot makeup. Christine finally got to come out of character last night and one up Paris - she looks amazing in her bright shiny satin dress. Hilton on the other hand, well let's just say we would have worn this look differently, but she did score the hunk so who am I to talk. Paris got a huge hug from her documentary BFF Adrian Grenier but the real test will be at the box office this weekend. Unfortunately for Paris, based on the 100 screen distribution deal we're pretty sure this won't crack the top 10.

Paris in the City of Brotherly Love

Paris Hilton headed to a mall in Philadelphia yesterday to do some promotional work for her upcoming movie The Hottie and the Nottie. She played with one of our favorite toys, the fabulous Flip camcorder while she chatted it up with local radio stations. Paris also met lots of screaming fans, and when asked about her appeal, she said, "I think maybe it's because I'm real. People can relate to me. They see things that have happened in my life. And that I'm sweet. I feel that when you truly are a good person, it will shine through in your eyes - shine through from your heart to your eyes - and people will see that. Princess Diana, who I love, she had that."

Somehow, "real" isn't the first word that comes to mind when we think of Paris, but we do give her credit for heading to the mall to meet fans instead of hitting the stores.

2007 wasn't exactly the best year for Paris, what with her jail time and all, but that only leaves room for improvement in 2008. Paris Lands The Cover of Newsweek, Perhaps it's a Desperate Attempt to Increase Newsstand Sales

While Paris may be really trying hard with this serious actor thing, she has still managed to bump and grind her way onto the cover of Newsweek. However, the article isn't commending her film work. The magazine's cover story, which accompanies a cover shot of Paris and Britney with the title Girls Gone Wild, poses the question of whether girls like Paris, Britney, and LL are poisoning our nation's youth and turning our 12-year olds into prosti-tots. Ultimately, the writers can't seem to answer their own question, but Paris is probably just psyched that she made the cover of Newsweek.

Paris is Ready for her Close-Up

By this point, I'm sure you're used to Paris Hilton The Serious Female Actor and are patiently awaiting the premiere of her first Serious (with a capital S, natch) movie, nay, film, The Hottie and The Nottie. This epic will surely bring our blonde celebutant into the highest echelons of acting and she will soon be sitting alongside the Streeps and Hepburns of the world at award shows for years to come. Which is why, of course, it's so shocking to hear that she may be (but maybe not!) acting like a bratty brat on the set. Here's more:

Paris Hilton, supposedly has been late arriving on the set of "The Hottie and the Nottie," and had trouble learning her lines. "Everyone is really fed up with her right now," said our tipster.

But producer Hadeel Reda told Page Six: "Paris has never been more than 15 minutes late. Everything is memorized. She's been very professional."

Hilton has been studying with Ivana Chubbuck, one of the top acting coaches in Hollywood, Reda said. "I think people are going to be shocked at how good she is."

Especially considering people are probably expecting her to spend the entire film dancing like an idiot, pulling down her top and spewing racial slurs. Nowhere to go but up. By the way, Ivana Chubbuck may be the best name for an acting coach ever.
