90210 vs. Melrose Place: Which Was More Scandalous?

Tuesday night's soapy dramas packed several surprises into this week's episodes - 90210 introduces a whole new character to love (or hate) and Sasha drops a bomb on Dixon; while over on Melrose, Riley and Jonah's seemingly perfect relationship is quickly unraveling. But the biggest surprise of all? Ella was nice. I know, crazy stuff.

Ready to pick apart a few plot lines (spoiler alert!) to determine which show was this week's juiciest? Let the battle begin when you read more.

90210 point: Annie steals a car! In her defense, she was talked into doing it by Jasper, because he wants to film the heist for his "movie." (I purposely put movie in airquotes, because who knows if this guy is for real. I don't trust him.)
Melrose Place counterpoint: Lauren finds out that David has been doing some stealing of his own when diamonds spill out of his bag. She makes a deal with him that she won't turn him in, if he stops. Not that Lauren should be doling out moral advice...

90210 point: A new surfer girl named Ivy arrives, and after accidentally hitting Liam's car, the two get competitive on and off land. He cuts her off at a surf contest, and she fakes a cramp to win. (This is also known as foreplay.) Their flirty antics grab Naomi's attention, who answers back by ditching her relationship with Richard - and her chances at college - for his roommate Jamie.
Melrose Place counterpoint: Violet gives the evil eye to anyone who comes near Auggie. When she sees his concern for Riley, she hints to Jonah about their questionable friendship to help break things up. And those sparrows in the complex that Riley and Auggie seem so smitten with? I doubt it's a coincidence that their nest was later smashed. Watch out Riley - my bet is Violet's gunning for you next.

90210 point: Dixon gets frustrated that he can never be seen with Sasha and dumps her. When she shows up later, he thinks that she's making amends, but actually, she's pregnant. This isn't necessarily new teen territory, but pregnant when you're in an underage relationship? Now that's scandalous.
Melrose Place counterpoint: Where do I begin with Jonah and Riley? First Auggie lets it spill that Riley kissed him, then Riley doesn't 'fess up the truth to Jonah, then Jonah grabs a drink with the hot new film exec who's helping him with his script (Step Up's Jenna Dewan!). We all know where this is headed...
90210 point: Debbie is still fuming over Harry calling her Kelly by accident, but matters worsen when Harry plans to have lunch with her and then cancels to comfort Kelly. Deb shows up to Harry's office with some food, and surprise - Kelly is there. Later, he teases Kelly about how Deb thinks she has a crush on him, but when Kelly doesn't respond right away, Harry realizes it's true. Do you think they're going to have an affair?
Melrose Place counterpoint: Riley models for another fashion shoot, and is asked to get topless by the photographer (Jo from the original Melrose!) In an even bigger shocker, Ella stands up for Riley when Jo starts throwing a few verbal punches at her from behind the camera. She even calls Jo a sell out. Awww, Ella, you do care.

I'm going to have to give this week's round to 90210 yet again. The guys from Melrose weren't bringing that much new drama to the table, but how can you compete with an illegal pregnancy and a car-napping? Do you agree, or should the Jonah and Riley storyline earn Melrose more points?

On a side note, is 90210 setting up Silver and Teddy? Looks so, but I hope not!

Michelle Williams Is Unamused by Your Prying Ways

Michelle Williams may not be ready to divulge the truth about the "honking" (not my word, I prefer made up size denominations like ginormous and egantic) diamond ring on her finger, but that doesn't mean that she was scared to wave it around the 3:1 Phillip Lim show this week. Engaged? Secretly Married? Uhhh, she doesn't want to talk about it. Here's more:

After some complimentary small talk about the designer, we asked about the honking great diamond ring on her finger.

"I don't want to talk about it," she said, shooting down any talk of an engagement with Heath Ledger.

Well if you didn't want to talk about it, Michelle, why'd you wear a ring that from the sounds of it has the ability to blind everyone in the room? Bling bling. Rachel McAdams Is Coming Back to a Screen Near You

It feels like forever since the last time Rachel McAdams was promoting a movie, but now she's back on the scene to gear up for her new film The Lucky Ones. We won't be able to catch her acting skills until Sept. 26, but how fabulous does she look in this vampy photo shoot for T magazine? We got a peek at the cover earlier in the week, but here are highlights from the interview where she talks career, kisses, and why her personal life is so sacred. Here are highlights:

On becoming an actress: "When you live in a small town in the middle of Ontario, it would have been too big of a dream to say that you want to go to Hollywood. But, secretly, I think I always knew. When I was young, I was a figure skater, and every year there was an ice carnival. I lived for the carnival. That's when the actress in me first came out. I loved the costumes and the sparkles. One year, I got to play Marilyn Monroe on ice. I danced to 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend.' I wore a long blond wig and a red dress with sequins. It was heavenly."
On working at McDonald's: "I had a small-town life - I worked at the local McDonald's for three years. I'm not sure why they kept me: I am something of a daydreamer and a dawdler, so they would only let me be the 'friendly voice' that greeted you when you entered the restaurant. I was slow - I would be organizing the sweet-and-sour packets in the customer's takeout bag while the line snaked out the door. Even at a fast-food restaurant, I wanted everything just so."
On kissing scenes: "They're strange. A kiss with anyone, on or off camera, can be intimidating. I've been kissing for nearly two decades now, and I'm always convinced I'm not doing it right. Chemistry is so important in a great kiss. You can act your way through anything, but it's hard with a kiss. It's much better if there's an attraction."

On the number of movies she makes: "I don't like to work all the time. When I'm working, the rest of my life slips away. I press pause on everything, and then, when I'm done working, I get back to the world I'm trying to interpret in the movies. I have a split personality - I love being completely immersed in my nonworking life, but I am equally compelled by the lives of the characters I play. If you want to tell stories as truthfully as possible, you have to have a normal, boring existence. Otherwise, you'll never understand the greatness of the everyday."

We always love anything and everything Rachel, so with a few new movies coming up we'll hopefully be seeing a lot more from her. Plus, speaking of chemistry on screen and off, we're always not-so-secretly holding out hope for that reunion with Ryan.

Pop Watch: Dirty Sexy Money, Ep 3 "The Italian Banker"

So we're on the third episode of Dirty Sexy Money, and so much has happened already – so lets get on to the good stuff! Here's a whole bunch of my thoughts on last night's episode "The Italian Banker", once you've read mine make sure you let me know what you thought of the show – I can't wait to read your thoughts!

Nick still doesn't trust Tripp, who isn't sleeping over the thought Simon Elder may have had something to do with Dutch's death. But Nick was determined to let the police deal with it instead of getting Tripp's private investigator involved. That didn't work out too well did it? The police proved not to be too useful. Oh, and Tripp lied to Nick about his knowledge of the affair – was this the truth from Tripp, or a lie? I think I trust him. Sometimes.
The sex tape situation was great – that montage of Nick asking the family members whether they had a sex tape in their past was hilarious, especially Karen's reaction, "You mean like a mix tape? Like the one you made me when I was 12...?" The woman is obsessed with him.
Tripp was talking sense to Patrick about letting Carmelita go, but... my heart's with Patrick on this one. He obviously really loves her. So I was very glad to see her in the car with Patrick later in the episode.
Loved the whole Juliet / Jeremy / Natalie thing - they're adult-sized kids. Juliet's belief in her twin-tuition was great, I love their brother and sister relationship. Also, the red carpet cat fight was very amusing!
Side note: how do I get invited to parties where you can take home as many diamonds as you like?!?!

Brian's family were looking after 'Swedish orphan Gustav' aka Brian Jr, but his wife was definitely suspicious. And then Brian Jr blew his cover by asking Brian's other kids about Spongebob Squarepants. Busted! The Reverend's confrontation with his son was great. "We pay the rent in this house with honesty, don't make me raise your rent." Say what?!
Karen was the one doing 'The Italian Banker' with Freddie's caddy on the sex tape. I loved that she took the fact Nick omitted a few truths to Tripp as loyalty to her.
A depressed Patrick decided to show the last bit of control over his life by drink-driving his way into a crash just before his campaign launch. Heaven knows how he recovered in time to make that great speech, but Nick's a miracle worker, that's for sure.
The (rather nice) Australian blackmailers sold the sex tape to someone else for a much bigger offer. And it turns out Simon Elder was behind it, but gave the tape back to Nick as a kind, if expensive, gesture. So can Simon be all bad? Or is something more mysterious going on... Hmmm....

As I said I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the episode... this series gets more and more mysterious as it goes!

The Truth About Nicole Richie Heads to the Small Screen

Nicole Richie looked casually chic meeting up with some friends for lunch yesterday. Most of you decided that Nicole is still a bad girl at heart after her alleged Fourth of July troublemaking, but at least she's putting her old ways to good use. She's in talks to produce a TV show based on her 2005 fictional memoir, The Truth About Diamonds. Nicole says she would produce and act in the new TV show, although probably not star as the lead. She has changed a lot since her Simple Life partying days, and hopefully this new project will show the world how far Nicole has come.

The makers of Shreddies brand shredded wheat crackers hosted a faux market research demonstration to test out a "new" product. They told consumers that their old square-shaped crackers were given a new flavor and a distinctive diamond shape. In truth, they hadn't changed a thing about their old crackers - besides the marketing. Will anyone notice?

Nicole's debut book, The Truth About Diamonds, was such a success that she has decided to write another one. This book supposedly called, Nicole Richie Style, will be a guide filled with her style tips. Can't you just imagine it now - How to dress like a twelve year old boy, or Which sunglasses hide the most of your face. While I will admit The Truth About Diamonds was a fun, mindless read, I'm not sure Nicole should be giving advice until she gets a little help of her own.

The National Board of Review Awards

The People's Choice Awards weren't the only big event last night. The National Board Of Review Awards Gala took place in NYC at Cipriani. Jennifer Hudson added one more award to her list winning its breakthrough performance award along with Ryan Gosling for Half Nelson's crackhead teacher. Penelope Cruz was on hand to present the foreign-film award for Volver and said about working with Pedro Almodovar, "It's too perfect. Sometimes it's scary. We're very good friends." SJP was at the event as well looking simply stunning.

US Weekly Calls BS on Aniston's Rep

US Weekly is defending their cover and Today show announcement about Jen and Vince's engagement. They are calling total BS on Aniston's rep Stephen Huvane who just denied this morning's reports. In fact, US goes as far as to give us detailed examples as to how he has lied in the past. Take a look:

1) BRAD AND JEN ARE NOT ENGAGED
After Jen and then-boyfriend Brad Pitt took the stage during a Sting concert in November 1999 and Jen flashed a big diamond ring on her left ring finger, Huvane told the media: “She has a ring, but it’s not an engagement ring.” He continued to deny any engagement until the couple married July 29, 2000.
2) BRAD AND JEN ARE OK
Two weeks before Brad and Jen announced their separation on January 7, 2005, Huvane told Us: “They are looking forward to spending the holidays with each other. There is no split. They are fine.”
3) JEN ISN’T MOVING TO HER FORMER BACHELORETTE PAD
In February 2005, Huvane denied reports that Aniston was planning to move back into her former Hollywood Hills home, telling the New York Daily News, “Jennifer is not planning to move back into her home that is leased out to Ali G [Sacha Baron Cohen]. That is another fabrication.” Cohen and his fiancée, Isla Fisher, were ousted from the place that same month, Aniston moved back into her old pad later that year, and Vaughn joined her in January 2006.
4) JEN AND VINCE ARE NOT DATING
When pictures of Vince and Jen cuddling on the set of The Break-Up surfaced in July 2005, and rumors circulated that the costars were dating offscreen, Huvane denied the coupling to the New York Post: “There is no romantic interest. Vince is a good friend of Jennifer’s. I think the tabloids are so eager to see her with someone romantically that they just make these false assumptions.”
And, hey, for good measure…
5) GWYNETH IS NOT DEPRESSED
In 2003, rumors surfaced that Gwyneth Paltrow’s depression over her father’s death caused the actress to drop out of the films I Heart Huckabees and Happy Endings. Huvane, who is also Gwyneth’s publicist, denied the reports, saying, “She’s not going through a serious depression, she just needs some time off.”

“I was so depressed about my father,” the actress later said of the time in her life.

Sooner or later something will be offical from these two. We look forward to the day when we know the truth.
