H.I.T. Gyms where 4 minutes = 90 minutes

The promise is attractive: a sweat-free 4-minute workout that will give you the same results as a grueling 90-minute workout session.

A Canadian company is making that silver-bullet pledge as it attempts to build a chain of store-front exercise havens for people who don't have the time to hit the local gym.

The company called H.I.T. (which stands for High Intensity Training) has opened its first "gym" in Toronto. It contains 5 narrow stalls, each one housing a $17,700 range-of-motion machine - it must be some serious magical piece of equipment to do in 4 minutes what it takes normal people hours to achieve. While the workout itself burns just 40 to 50 calories, it creates a lingering effect of burning an additional 500 calories over the next 24 hours due to its high intensity.

H.I.T claims using the Fit ROM machine is equivalent to approximately 45 minutes of resistance training, 30 minutes of running, plus 20 minutes of stretching.

H.I.T says it plans to open hundreds of such locations in Canadian cities within 5 years with membership dues comparable to traditional gyms.

Of course, fitness experts say the company's bulky H.I.T Fit cross trainer, which looks like a slightly scrunched elliptical trainer stuck to the back of a rowing machine and centered around a flywheel, cannot replace more traditional methods of exercise.

A high-intensity 4-minute workout on the H.I.T machine may build muscle tone, but won't do much for burning calories.

Whew - Thank god. I was beginning to regret my hours on the treadmill working out. Looks like what we always thought was right - you've got to actually workout and sweat to stay fit and healthy.

British and Irish Manjoyment Comes to Toronto Film Festival

Lots of gorgeous men from our side of the pond travelled across the Atlantic to make an appearance at the Toronto Film Festival this weekend, following Dominic Cooper and Paul Bettany's lead from last week. Ewan McGregor and George Clooney continued their bromance promoting The Men Who Stare at Goats, and travelled from Venice Film Festival to Canada, as did Matt Damon and his wife Luciana. Cillian Murphy was joined Brendan Gleeson for the premiere of Perrier's Bounty, while Colin Farrell was on the promotional trail for Triage. Ben Whishaw was at the Festival for Bright Star, and Ben Barnes premiered Dorian Gray.

Natalie Portman Pursues Love and Other Things in Toronto

Natalie Portman headed to Canada yesterday to join the fun at the Toronto Film Festival. She went casual in a white top in the afternoon for a press conference promoting her film Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, which we saw her filming last year back when it was called 17 Photos of Isabel. By evening Natalie was decked out in a pink Lanvin number to join costar Lisa Kudrow for a red carpet premiere. Natalie has been doing double duty promoting this movie and her forthcoming Brothers, and she's picked up a few unlikely fans. Her recent spread in Interview magazine, in which she confessed a love of obscene rap music, has apparently earned her the esteem of Ghostface Killah from the Wu-Tang Clan.

Natalie Portman hit the red carpet in Toronto last night as she promoted her latest movie Love and Other Impossible Pursuits alongside Lisa Kudrow. The gorgeous actress initially braved the cold Canadian air in a strapless frock (like so many others at the MTV VMAs earlier in the week), but soon sort warmth in a jacket lent to her by TV presenter Rick Campanelli. Natalie kept all eyes on her pink floral frock by teaming it with grey peep toe heels. What do you think of her look?

Lisa and Natalie Promote Love and Other Impossible Pursuits

Lisa Kudrow and Natalie Portman brought their colourful outfits to Canada for the premiere of Love And Other Impossible Pursuits at the Toronto Film Festival yesterday. They were joined by costar Scott Cohen for the premiere and press conference for the film, of which Natalie is also an executive producer. It's great to see Lisa making movies again, as she has said TV offers women better roles than film. The fruits of her TV role as Phoebe in Friends are still making headlines, with "Smelly Cat" being reworked as a dance anthem, about which Lisa said: "That's fascinating - I can't wait to hear if it is any good. Because it is a good tune."

Drew and Ellen Whip Up A Flurry Of Interest In Toronto

Drew Barrymore premiered her directorial debut Whip It this weekend at the Toronto Film Festival, and yesterday she took to a stage to answer questions about the experience along with her cast. Ellen Page stars in the film as a bored teen who joins a roller derby, alongside Eve, Landon Pigg, Juliette Lewis and Drew herself! With a black tipped bob and bright blue fingernails, Drew was looking eyecatching and quirky at the conference - BellaUS wants to know if you love or hate her look - and she talked about her first directorial role, saying:

"I've been producing for 15 years, and it's all been preparing for the big test. I really care so much about what I do, and I love filmmaking so much. I love every detail and every aspect of it. I think slow and steady wins the race, too. I didn't need to direct when I was 21. I wanted to produce and learn about the filmmaking process and understand every element going into it, so that by the time I did direct, I was as knowledgeable and well-prepared as possible."
