Because what could be more American than "disposing" of old TVs by throwing them off the roof? How about a free American flag with every purchase?!

I typically avert my eyes when graphic scenes flash across my television screen, so it boggles my mind that violence is such a celebrated form of entertainment. A new report from the Parents Television Council suggests that the prevalence of violence on TV is getting even more disturbing. The report reveals that violence against women and teen girls is up 120 percent, while violence shown on television general has raised by only two percent in recent years.

Back in the day when I watched waaay too much television, I couldn't even justify it by saying I was watching the good stuff. If anything, I watched the worst television had to offer. Take Cheaters, the reality television show hosted by smarmy Joey Greco.

It seems most every mother I know is guilty of placing their child in front of the television for a minute or two so they can cook a meal or make a call to the pediatrician without interruptions. Before they know it, a minute turns into an hour and soon enough, cartoons are mama's new babysitter. A new study says toddlers are watching 32 or more hours of television a week.

Since I don't watch much TV, updating my hefty idiot box to an ultra slim HD flatscreen is not very high on my list of priorities. But if I did own the latest and greatest in television technology, I would love to use an artist's easel as a stand, like this one featured in House Beautiful. Tech gadgets are always difficult to coordinate with décor, but that's especially true when your design scheme is earthy and traditional.

I loved this week's TV. Not only did we have tons of Halloween tributes (like on The Office!), but the quips seemed even snappier than usual. Were you paying attention?

Considering the fact I spend three quarters of my day online (it's pitiful, but true), I'm trying to adjust to the idea of watching TV programs via the net rather than my standard couch potato/laptop in lap method. With services like Joost and networks such as ABC offering streamed shows online, TV on the net is definitely becoming more mainstream and enjoyable for the viewer. The latest addition to this growing trend is a cool new service called WiTV - "Wireless Internet TV"- which works via your web browser and includes features like an integrated chat system that allows you to talk via IM and Skype with other viewers.
