Jul 21 2008 - 12:15pm By now you must have heard that Starbucks is closing 600 of its stateside coffee shops. Last week Starbucks released the official list of the closing stores with a grand total of 616 closures. The closing stores are company-operated stand alone locations; no bookstore, super market, or airport Starbucks will be shuttered.
No. I wish one of them would, though. Seriously, there is one inside a supermarket and a full size one in the shopping center RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET. Ridiculous. On the other hand, I am
relieved to find out our study spot during the school year isn't closing...
Two within a five mile radius to me are closing. I'm not surprised about one because it's kind of hard to get to -- no direct access from the street so drivers have to go through another
parking lot to get there.
3 in my area are closing...including the mall I work at! This really isn't an issue, considering they've opened at stand in the middle of the hall, plus there's one around the corner from the
mall itself.
There are some in Seattle, but none of them I've ever been to. I broke up with them a while back because it just wasn't good anymore. I started going sporadically again to give them a try but
now that they've discontinued a COFFEE drink in exchange for SMOOTHIES I think that will end too. With all the folks I know around here who detest Starbucks I'm actually surprised that there
are just a handful going out here.
i can only think of two or three that are relatively close to me and those aren't closing. they aren't within walking distance from my house or from my college, though so i go once every blue
moon, even though i adore the vanilla bean frappuccino with whipped cream. most people in NOLA just go to PJ's or CC's anyway.
There was a joke Lewis Black used to tell about Starbucks. Slightly offensive, to be sure, but he said that he saw a Starbucks across the street from a Starbucks, and the only people the
company could possibly be attempting to win over are Alzheimer's patients who come out of one Starbucks and suddenly want coffee.
They're only closing two in the entire city of Austin, which I thought was surprising. The one in my neighborhood is within two miles of at least four good, local coffeehouses. I always
choose a local place over the Starbucks (cute baristas at my favorite coffeehouse are definitely a plus).
Unfortunately, the other one is one that I stop by occasionally while taking a coffee break from work. It's kind of way out in the middle of nowhere, but I have to drive that way to audit a
small, rural hospital almost every day.
They're closing the Starbucks in Appleton that's about 30 minutes from me, which is fine. I hate Starbucks and never drink their ridiculously overpriced coffee, so I could really care less if
ALL Starbucks closed.
I don't do Starbucks. I live in Seattle and much prefer the independent coffee shops. I kind of consider Starbucks to be the "Walmart" of the coffee world.
They are closing 2 within a 30 mile radius from where I live - One they are "closing" hasn't opened yet and second I didn't know even existed (maybe it wasn't open yet either) lol. But the
one in my town is staying, yay!
A town near me with a population of 500 has 3 Starbucks franchises. NONE of them are being closed. Another town near me with a population of 12,000 has two Starbucks franchises and BOTH are
being closed. How much sense does that make?! I've basically given up Starbucks coffee for its poor quality and for economic reasons but these particular closures are lacking in business
sense, IMHO. I just feel so horrible for the folks who are losing their jobs. Starbucks is a fine employer.
The only one closing in my city is the only one I don't visit much. I live in a college area and there are 2 within 6 blocks of each but you would never know because they are both packed!
There are a couple in St. Louis closing that I go to occasionally. St.Louis does not really have a ton of Starbucks to begin with though, and they have recently built a bunch of new ones...
So I don't really know what the strategy here is...
they are closing the only drive-thru bux in my town which i find really inconvenient. the only other ones are in good spots but don't have parking. grrr
That sucks. Two stores that I know of are closing. One in Willow Grove, PA is busy all the time. I don't get it. And the other in my home town in NJ just opened earlier this year and it's
where I go to get my sandwiches when I visit my parents. This so sucks!!!
Good riddance! Both of the stores in my town are gone, and I'm quite glad! In my city, we have a good number of locally owned, small business type coffeeshops, and Starbucks had THE NERVE to
put a store up less than a block away from one. What kind of business ethics is that?! I say Starschmucks is nothign more than a greedy corporation, trying to take business away from the
(ever-dying) small business, no better than McDonald's or Wal-Mart. I honestly believe my town is better off without them, this way if people need a coffee fix they will go to the small
business instead of giving more fuel to the flame of BIG BUSINESS!

The one closest to my place is going down. No worries, though, as there's another one just 3 blocks away.
1Yes 5 near me in FL but not the one that is in my neighborhood that I usually go to.

7No, and I am ELATED. I would cry if the Starbucks I can walk to from my apt. closed. Fortunately, it's staying open! Yay!
8Here there are 6 star bucks within a two miles radius. half of them are closing. There are way too many concentrated in certain areas here.

17They aren't closing any anywhere near us- I just saw a new one going into a supermarket actually.

21Mine is safe. we're only losing two in Maine and they're both in the same town. Hahah!
22I hope they all close. They put enough local "mom and pop" coffee places out of business.
23None are closing near my town; the only ones closing in my state are in the northern towns. Yay! My (2) starbucks spots stay!
