Padma Lakshmi has that mom-to-be glow these days, and she's sporting a sleek new hairstyle, too. While we're used to seeing her with hair that's either in big, beautiful waves or swept back in a variety of updos, last night at the Made In Italy party, she went for thick bangs split in the middle. Padma's so pretty that anything, really, would look great on her, but do you think these bangs are a flattering new look, or a faux pas?

Since the majority of red-carpet photos are taken from the front, we don't often see the back of stars' hairstyles. But, that's about to change. It takes the work of skilled stylists to achieve these intricate looks, so let's test your red-carpet prowess.

It appears that Olivia Wilde has her signature look down pat. It includes dark liner along the waterlines, some smoky shadow, and a pink gloss. The House actress, who doesn't seem to be as tied down to a particular hairstyle as she is with her makeup, opts for a standard updo on tonight's red carpet.

When it comes to the red carpet, Kyra Sedgwick is an old pro. This year, her look is all about the old-school updo — her long, wavy locks tossed back into a voluminous hairstyle. She's wearing a pink gown, so to complement the feminine style, she goes for a pretty in pink lip.

When you're on the red carpet wearing a red dress and you have red hair like Debra Messing, would you wear red lipstick? That might be what one would call overkill, and that's probably why the actress opted for a nude-toned lip instead. As for the rest of her makeup, the funny lady paired that glossy lip color with an orange blush and lots of dark mascara.

Ponytails and updos with tousled-in-the-front tendrils seem to be the look of the moment, particularly on the red carpet. Think Ashlee Simpson's laid-back asymmetrical hairstyle or Renée Zellweger's carefree and casual ponytail she wore as a guest on Letterman. Now, Sandra Bullock joined the growing group of disheveled hairstyle wearers, sporting this look at yesterday's All About Steve premiere in LA.

Besides all of the amazing clothes at the CFDA Awards last night in New York City, the red carpet was covered in blonde beauties with predominantly smoky eyes, nude lipstick and gorgeous hairstyles. Whilst some of the women like Blake Lively, Heidi Klum and Agyness Deyn opted for casual styles with side-swept fringe, others such as Doutzen Kroes, Ashley Olsen, Diane Kruger and Kirsten Dunst wore more intricate updo's.
However, I think my favourite is Molly Sims's.

Starting on Wednesday evening, stars from all around the globe have gathered in the South of France for the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. American actress Robin Wright Penn was there on the red carpet not once but on four different occasions decked to the nines in varying hairstyles. I love the body and colour of her bright blonde hair, but for the glamorous red carpet, I think I like the twisty, centre parted updo best.
