Performers celebrating Michael's life and career include Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, and Britain's Got Talent's Shaheen Jafargholi. It will be broadcast on TV channels tonight in the UK including Sky News and E! from 5.30pm, as well as streaming online. But will you be watching? Let me know.

President Obama may have started yesterday with the intention of selling his stimulus plan to the American people with a full-court media press, but he ended it defending his stake on change. On the NBC Nightly News Obama handled ex-nominee Tom Daschle's tax problems by confessing to Brian Williams: "I screwed up." On Tom Daschle's withdrawal: Oh it made me angry and disappointed and it's something I have to take responsibility for. I appointed these folks. I think they are outstanding people. I think Tom Daschle as an example could have led this health care effort, a difficult effort better than just about anybody. But as he acknowledged, this was a mistake.
On whether politics as usual has won: [T]he fact of the matter is Tom Daschle pulled out today. And I'm here on television saying I screwed up and that's part of the era of responsibility, is not never making mistakes, it's owning up to them and trying to make sure you never repeat them and that's what we intend to do.

On how the stimulus plan will help regular Americans: Now the recovery package that we've put together, has not only immediate relief to families, if they've lost their job, they're going to get extended unemployment insurance, they're going to get to keep their health insurance. We're going to make sure that states don't have to lay off teachers and that they can train teachers for the math and science that is so important for our children.
On whether the stimulus package is getting "pecked to death": Well look, it's got to go through Congress. That means there are 535 people who have an opinion about what's good policy. . . And I want to continue to work with Democrats and Republicans to find some common ground. But what I can't accept is the politics as usual where we think about scoring points . . . instead of acting. We've lost a million jobs in the last two months. We can't afford another four million jobs lost this year and every economist I talk to projects that if we don't act quickly, we could end up seeing a much more severe situation than we're seeing right now.

Usher Celebrates His Current & Future Namesakes

Beyonce and Martha Stewart came out last night to help Usher celebrate the launch of his new fragrances, USHER for Men and USHER for Women. While it was clearly a big night for him, Usher was more interested in talking about his baby than about his scents. He even revealed that he and Tameka will be having a boy, saying, "I've found that it is a step-by-step process. You can wish for a million and one things. But I hope that my son has the same energy I had as a child, Hopefully, he won't be as bad as me. I hope that he's just a healthy son." Usher may not want to raise a little bad boy, but he's already said that he wants to pass on his name. Looks like we should expect a cute mini-me soon.

Two celebrations were clearly not enough, so Victoria Beckham rounded up all her celebrity friends for a party at Via Veneto in Santa Monica last night. We already got a look at the hot couple on their way in - but check out the rest of the guest list. First of all, there have rumors about a falling out between the Beckhams and the Cruises, but Tom and Katie were all smiles and sunglasses on their way in last night. Posh and David's new BFFs, the Beckinsale-Wisemans, of course made an appearance along with Eva Longoria, Will and Jada, Usher and Tamika, Diddy and Kim, Gwen and Gavin . . . the list goes on. Quite the group (out on a school night! Ha) to celebrate the British birthday girl - hope they all had a blast!

A British newspaper has released a tape of Amy Winehouse smoking crack and doing other drugs in her apartment during a party the night before her husband's hearing last week. We knew Amy's problems were bad, but this is just horrible and it's pretty clear now that she needs serious help. - The Sun

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Working With Family

Since we all spend more time with our co-workers than our loved ones, it makes sense that some of you have a desire to work with your significant other, but what about working with a family member? In Hollywood, parents oftentimes double as their children's managers, but oftentimes it can backfire, (remember what happened with Macaulay Culkin?) resulting in a tainted work and personal relationship. Having a momager seemed to work for Usher for a few years until news of a split hit the wire back in May, 2007. No one knows the details surrounding their breakup, but it couldn't have been all that bad because he's rehired her as his manager!

I know my parents would only have my best interests at heart but even so, I'm not so sure it would be a good idea to mix business with family. What about you? Would working with your family members be a good idea or a bad idea?

Sugar Bits - Owen Wilson Is Back At Home & Doing Well

According to Wes Anderson, Owen Wilson is doing very well and already cracking jokes and smiling again. Wes was promoting their movie at the Venice Film Festival which obviously Owen decided to not attend but he's recovering well and we're just happy to hear he is in good spirits. - AP
Ken Paves took a trip to Utah to work on Lindsay Lohan's hair extensions during her stay in rehab. It sounds like Lindsay still doesn't quite have her priorities in order. - Page Six
