Did You Read Sweet Valley High Books Growing Up?

Sweet Valley High, a book series that had a twenty-year run starting in 1983, centered on the lives of teen twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield from - you guessed it - Sweet Valley, CA. There was even a television show based on the books.

Word on the street is that Jennifer's Body screenwriter Diablo Cody will be at the helm of a project to produce and direct an adaptation of the Sweet Valley High books. Something tells me she'll be perfect for this.

She's tackled pregnant teens, monster teens, and now Diablo Cody is going for . . . sweet teens? Yes, the dialogue diva herself has been tapped to produce and direct an adaptation of the Sweet Valley High books.

Even though the manufactured slang in Jennifer's Body started to get to me, I'm interested to see what Cody does with the beloved books. I read a lot of the series (and even watched the TV show), and I'm happy to see the books get revived in the pop-culture domain, even if it does involve Jessica telling Elizabeth that she's "Jello, so lime-green Jello."

UPDATE: Diablo herself replied to my tweet about made-up slang with "Thinking I might play it straight." There ya have it!

When you're stressed and feel the tension mounting you can fight the inevitable headache with a little acupressure. The point at the base of your thumb, known as Union Valley, helps redirect blocked energy known as chi in Chinese medicine.

To find this tension taming spot, open your palm wide stretching all five fingers. The little mound of flesh where your thumb meets your palm is the Union Valley. Take the index finder and thumb from your opposite hand and give that spot a moderate squeeze. Hold for about 30 seconds wile breathing slowly and deeply. Repeat two to three more times, then switch hands. File this tip away for the next time you feel the beginnings of a tension headache.

Health Valley Microwaveable Soups: Organic Minestrone

When you're rushing around, it can be difficult to make a proper meal. However, that doesn't mean you have to give up and buy fast food. I'm always on the lookout for quick meals that are also good for me, and I just came across these Health Valley Microwaveable Soups. They're fairly inexpensive and really easy to make. I love the convenience of the microwavable container, and the fact that they're made with organic ingredients.

Good thing I like foods that have a soft consistency because after trying this soup, "squishy" was the first word to come to my mind. The cooked carrots, green beans, celery bits and noodles were so mushy that they practically disintegrated in my mouth. This would make a great meal if you just had dental work or if you weren't feeling that well.

The flavor was a little bland, slightly like salty tomatoes, and the aftertaste was a little peppery. When I looked at the ingredients, I felt good knowing they were mostly organic. Plus for only 100 calories, this would make a great meal coupled with a salad and a piece of whole grain bread. I'm not a huge fan of this Minestrone soup, but I might try the other flavors if I needed a meal in a pinch.

In 1982, Frank Zappa's oddly named 14-year-old daughter Moon Unit poked fun at "Val-Speak" when she mimicked the speech of chicks who live in LA's San Fernando Valley. As she's saying stuff like "Gag me with a spoon," daddy Frank is talking about how dumb the girls are. I don't think anything's changed-she's basically talking about Paris and her ilk. Fer sure, fer sure. (Bonus: Solid Gold Dancers!)

Charlize Brings The Valley To LA

Strongwoman Charlize was lovefest central with her husband Stuart at the LA premiere of In the Valley of Elah last night. James Franco finally made it out to a screening (too busy for the festival circuit I guess), but still couldn't be bothered to upgrade from jeans. Diane Lane was there to support her husband Josh's movie, but I am so not loving that haircut. Hey, at least it's low maintenance?

Watch 'Pirates of Silicon Valley' Online For Free

Arrrrrrhh ya feeling geeky? If you're a Cult of Mac-er you'll be pleased to learn you can now watch “Pirates of Silicon Valley,” the 1999 made for TV 1999 movie about the beginning of the beef between Apple founder Steve Jobs and Microsoft founder Bill Gates, for free on Google video.

I can't guarantee a single pirate joke during the movie (perhaps that's why I had to insert the one above), but I can guarantee you'll wish you had a bottle of Rum when it's through to celebrate all things geeky and campy.

ER cast member Noah Wylie does his best Steve impression - which, honestly, leaves a whole lot to be desired - and Breakfast Club-er Anthony Michael Hall does his best as Gates, which means donning geeky glasses and a fluffy wig.

"The entire thing manages to be both so over-the-top and so nerdy that you can scarcely believe anyone thought it would be a good idea to greenlight it," says Cult of Mac's Pete Mortensen. Awww touche Pete, touche.
