Seth Rogen Talks Monsters, Aliens, and Halloween

Tonight, NBC is airing a Halloween-themed follow up to last Summer's animated hit Monsters Vs. Aliens, Monsters Vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space. Seth Rogen, who voices the gelatinous jokester B.O.B. in the half-hour special, chatted on the phone with a few reporters about reprising his role. He talked animated films, Halloween, and even a little bit of the upcoming adaptation of The Green Hornet that he's currently filming with Michel Gondry.

On why he enjoys voicing B.O.B.: I enjoy it because, I mean, this is the stupidest answer - I enjoy it because it's fun. The character is funny and the directors are cool and the story is funny; to me it's like a very fun format to kind of improvise, and try to discover a character in a different way than physically doing it, you know. You've got to do it all with your voice, and I really enjoy that.
On dressing up for Halloween: I have a girlfriend now and I've entered the unfortunate world of paired costuming. It's not fun. I don’t recommend it. I always end up being the lamer half - it's like she's a dog and I'm a fire hydrant or something like that. It's never fun. So maybe I'm dodging a bullet this year.

On his Halloween TV faves: I always liked The Simpsons' Halloween specials, personally. They were always amazing. I always looked forward to that on Halloween. And I watched TGIF sitcoms growing up because I was a nerd and had nothing to do on Friday nights, and whenever the sitcoms would do their Halloween episode, I always enjoyed that for some reason. That always spawned some good comedy.
On the pressure of making The Green Hornet: I will blame Gondry if it sucks. No, I'm just joking. No, we are all in it, you know. I will say, I take a huge amount of the pressure. I understand that. I understand that. I understand that it's my face on it, you know, when it literally comes out even if it sucks for another reason, people will blame me and that's why I have to be so involved - to try to make sure that it doesn't suck. But there's a lot of pressure. I understand that. I've been talking about this movie for years, and if it sucks, then no one will be more disappointed than me, believe me.
On improvising as a voice actor: You can actually improvise a lot as a voice actor. I mean, real people I think don't - and I didn't - understand how animation works really. The time consuming part is really creating the characters and the sets and the worlds. And aside from that it's not that entirely different than shooting a live action movie; the characters mouths are quite easy to manipulate once all the information is built into the computer. So you can improvise a lot and it doesn't matter really how far along they are in the process; they can just make the character say something different. Almost more than in a live action movie because of how slow the process is.
On whether he'll do more voice acting in the future: I really enjoy it and I mean, I've always been a fan of animation - yes, I would like to.

Samantha Burke Shares Jude Views and First Pics of Sophia

Samantha Burke has finally opened up about her relationship with Jude Law in an exclusive interview with Hello magazine. She shares the first pictures of five-week-old baby Sophia and talks about how she met Jude and why they broke up, confirms that Jude is yet to meet his daughter, and reveals Sophia is already taking after her father. Here are the highlights:

On Sophia's features: "She has Jude’s chin and nose, and she does a little pout, that I notice he’s done before."
On whether Jude has visited them yet: "There are no plans for it to happen at the moment, but I know he’s busy."
On her relationship with Jude: "I ran into Jude in a nightclub one night. I instantly knew who he was, but he seemed really funny; he was cracking jokes with people and he included me in that. The next thing I knew I was on the pavement outside, being twirled around – it was a lot of fun. Following that initial meeting, Jude and I went out several times. He was a lot of fun to be around, always making me laugh and smile."

On why their relationship ended: "I was scheduled to move to Pittsburgh to help care for my grandmother. Around the same time, Jude was wrapping up his shoot in New York and I knew that he would be heading back to the UK. I knew that as we headed in separate directions our relationship would not continue. And I was okay with that. I was living in the moment and I really enjoyed all my time with Jude. I really have no regrets."
On why she waited to tell Jude about the pregnancy: "I needed time to come to terms with it myself before telling him. By the time that I attempted to contact him, he had been back in the UK for quite a while. The US-based number that I had for Jude no longer worked. Shortly after that, my representative spoke with one of his."
On how Sophia takes after Jude: "He’s very talented, and she might be just as talented, too: she might take after him. She’s already quite theatrical – I’ve noticed she makes a lot of dramatic moves!"
On her future relationship with Jude: "It would be great if we can have a friendship and be cordial. I want everything to be positive around Sophia, I don’t want any negativity. I’m really easy to get along with, so hopefully we can work things out."

The stars of Showtime, the CW, and CBS came together at their TCA party in Pasadena last night. The Huntington Library was bursting with celebrities from all three networks who mixed and mingled at the gorgeous venue. Ashlee Simpson-Wentz looked perfectly petite in her sexy dress as she told us about how well-behaved Bronx is these days. Peter Facinelli and Jennie Garth both had shows to promote, though Peter was also happy to chat about feeling like Robert Pattinson at Twi-Con and heading back to work in Vancouver today!

Weeds hottie Hunter Parrish was happy to joke around about not having any sexy scenes this week though admitted that his comments about High School Musical were totally blown out of proportion: "You know what's funny? I talked about that three years ago when it was relevant and now that it's not relevant at all everyone's talking about it." AnnaLynne McCord is always a blast to chat with and she was so excited to dish on the new season and her desires for a Gossip Girl crossover. Peter Facinelli on Twi-Con: "It was phenomenal! It was probably the biggest event I've been to. 3000 fans from all over. I had a woman come in from Colombia. Another woman came in from Germany. It was pretty amazing. I don't know a lot of fans who would fly in from other countries for a weekend. At one point we were doing a Q & A and we were throwing paper airplanes into the audience that had the casts' signature on them. So I wanted to try and get one in the back [of the room], so I decided to run it to the back. It seemed like a good idea, but halfway through it got really scary. I don't know how I made it back. I thought to myself - now I know what Robert Pattinson feels like."
Ashlee on bringing Bronx to set: "He does [come to set a lot]. He's incredible. He's such a big boy. He's amazing! He's attempting to walk. I can hold him as he tries to walk - he's only eight months. He's learning fast. He's growing! He's such a big boy, it's good. He's nice and healthy and a happy baby, which you couldn't ask for more.
AnnaLynne on her dream Gossip Girl crossover: "I am still sticking to the Gossip Girl crossovers that need to happen. Naomi goes to New York. Beverly Hills girl falls in love with the bad boy - Chuck Bass and Naomi Clark. I very much adore Leighton Meester and that story line with Blair and Chuck but Naomi could come spice it up a little! Why not?
Kevin Williamson on keeping up with cast of Dawson's Creek: "Kerr Smith drove me here. I had lunch with James a couple of weeks ago and we vowed to stay in touch so we've been texting. The only one I haven't seen in a while is Michelle, who is in New York. I see Katie in LA."

TrèsSugar: Hi, Chelsea! I busted a gut reading My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands and I think Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea might be one of the most brilliant titles for a book ever. I love how you seem like the rare woman - gorgeous, and not trading on that but rather on your wit and subverting “proper” female behavior. Thanks for answering our questions!
Chelsea Handler: Well, thank you very much.

TS (I realize I kinda ambushed her here!): Are you a feminist?
CH: I feel like focusing on the idea of feminism is saying that we haven't achieved it yet. I believe in behaving at a level and having people meet you at a level that says: I'm a very highly functioning woman.

TS: Christopher Hitchens infamously said that only women who are fat, unattractive, Jewish or lesbian can be funny. How would you respond to him if you could?
CH: Well, I am half-Jewish, so he must have been right.

TS: Do you think humor for women is a defense mechanism, a survival skill? In your case, why did you think you became so funny?
CH: I think people are born the way they are born, and circumstances either add or take away from who you are deep down. I love to laugh, and in turn, love when I can make other people laugh.

TS: What in your past laid the groundwork for the way you see the world?
CH: Probably my father's 10 used cars that were in our driveway my entire life. I would say it was the opposite of rose-colored glasses.

TS: Who are your comic influences and heroes?
CH: I never intended on being a comedian, so it would be dishonest to say that I was
really influenced by anyone other than the idea of expressing my opinions. My brothers, sisters, and parents were definitely the biggest influences in my life.

TS: What’s a typical Chelsea Friday night?
CH: Dinner with friends usually at my house and a plethora of cocktails before, during, and after.

TS: Describe your ideal man. Do you think you’ll ever find him?
CH: Someone who gets the joke. Probably not.

TS: What was the weirdest wedding you ever went to?
CH: The one where the bride was smoking a cigarette in her wedding gown. That was pretty magnificent.

TS: What’s your biggest deal breaker in relationships?
CH:I usually don't break up with guys, I wait for them to break up with me.

TS: What’s your biggest piece of advice to today’s woman?

CH: Be ambitious for not only yourself, but also for the people around you, be generous, and be forthright. Karma is real, and it will reward you if you are doing the same for others.

Levi McConaughey Has His Dad's Sense of Humor

Matthew McConaughey brought his family and friends to the MaliBLUE Art & Music Festival in LA yesterday. The event was a fundraiser for the Surfrider Foundation, which concentrates on protecting oceans and beaches, and MM looked happy to show his eco-friendly side. He's been promoting Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and recently talked about his experience working with Jennifer Garner and provided funny stories about little Levi. Here's more:

On working with Jennifer Garner: " I had a ball with Jennifer. She's very elegant, yet sort of a classic woman, actress. She does her own thing, and she also doesn't bring a lot of hoity-toity false drama to the process. But she's also very sly and cunning and witty. She's with it and she's fun to work with. You might think you're pulling one over on her, and she'll flip it right around. She's very keen and coy."
On whether he changes diapers and if Levi pees on him: "Yes! And yes! More than a few times to both. And he gets the joke when he pees on me. He laughs. He laughs his butt off! I think I am [good at changing diapers]. I could have a race-off with some other dads out there ... The coolest thing I've learned from Levi is kids really remind you of [your] sense of humor."
On having more kids: "Sure, maybe. This is going great right now. We're having a ball. Right now Levi's favorite toy is a carrot. No matter how many of those colorful toys you buy at Toys "R" Us or Babies "R" Us, his favorite toy is a carrot. He takes it everywhere. You've got to get a cold one. When it gets hot, he doesn't like it as much and you have to get a cold one out of the fridge. Because it's cold it feels good on his teeth, but he just likes the carrot."

Levi sounds like quite the character already, taking after his dad's outgoing personality and his mom's sense of style.

Geeks We Love: Elaine Chow of Gizmodo

You've already seen the men of this year's Geeks We Love series, and now it's time to mix it up with a girl-crush: Elaine Chow of Gizmodo.

A gadget girl living in and writing from China, Elaine is set apart by geography and gender, as most of the Giz staff is male. Check out what she has to say about that, as well as a valuable dating/technology lesson she learned in my interview with her.

GS: You're the Gizmodo member who writes from Asia. Do you look out for what's breaking in tech while we're all sleeping on the other side of the world?

EC: Basically that's my job! Catch things that are only around the Asian websites or that would otherwise fall through the cracks during the graveyard shift. Thanks to the Internet, it's not too hard to do - though it sometimes gets lonely since very few of my coworkers are on the company chat room at two in the morning.

GS: Gadget rundown! Cell phone, computer, console?

EC: I actually have a terribly old cellphone - a Nokia model from 2005 that my dad stopped using last year. I'd lost my U.S. phone, a SE W580, on the plane ride over here. I've been hemming and hawing over what to replace it with since. A part of me wants something I can slip into tight jeans. Another part of me wants to use a smartphone already. Preferably running Android.

I've got my tablet PC, a Fujitsu Lifebook T4210, and my desktop. . . a Shuttle PC I built myself. I've been kind of lazy with my Shuttle. Back in New York, I had it hooked up to a 27-inch LCD TV. I was going to do that here, but just haven't found the time or money to go TV shopping. I got the Shuttle because it was small and easy to move around, but I wanted to be able to swap components as they got old. With the tablet - I love tablets. I like to doodle, so sometimes when I'm feeling a little strung out, I'll fire up Sketchbook Pro.

Besides that, I've got a Wii, a PS2, and my DS Lite. I've been a little obsessed with Mario Kart lately. I used to DDR a lot, but I haven't found a good mat in China yet. I'm waiting for Sony to come out with a slim PS3 (you know they're going to at SOME point in time. Come ON Sony!). . . and debating whether I really need an Xbox 360.

I waffle a lot when deciding whether to buy new stuff. I'm very stingy and I hate waste, so I'll obsess over the value to use ratio of my purchases. My TV's a big ol' 26-inch CRT my parents donated to my apartment.

GS: As one of the only female writers on the Gizmodo staff, do you feel you have an edge? Do you think you handle tech stories differently?

EC: I don't know if it gives me much of an edge to be a girl writer. When I first started out, I'd get some misogynistic comments if I ever wrote about say, a kitchen or cleaning gadget. I would like to think I don't handle anything differently than my fellow writers because I have ovaries though. It helps that the Giz crew is a pretty enlightened bunch. Maybe the guys tend to make a few more boner jokes. . .No. . . No, I make a lot of boner jokes too. Never mind.

GS: Being a woman writing in tech, is it more important that you connect with a female audience and show them you're a woman so they can relate to you, or that you are seen on the same level as a male tech blogger?

EC: I think the best way for me to write is to not think about being anything other than being "Elaine, who was fascinated enough with geeky things to become a tech blogger." I think me being a woman will color my posts as often as me being an environmentalist, me being a science lover, me liking cats, etc. You know? Like, it's important. . . but it's not the most important thing. That being said, if me being a woman blogging at Gizmodo has made any girl out there think "Hey, maybe this tech stuff isn't just for guys after all," I'd be super psyched.

GS: How do you feel about the current state of dating and technology? Any funny mishaps happen to you that could be blamed on tech?

EC: I'm one of those terrible people that never write letters or calls to say hello anymore thanks to email, IM'ing and text messaging. I think the last two guys I dated, I never actually conversed with on the phone. Part of that is probably because I actually hate phone conversations. It's a weird neurosis.

Hmm . . . a mishap with technology. Well, I don't know if I can call this one funny. A former boyfriend of mine had problems controlling his jealousy. One day, I had left my MSN messenger on before leaving my house for work and he saw that I'd received an email from another ex. He went into my emails, from there got passwords to my private blog and then proceeded to read it and yell at me for things I'd written (sometimes about him) that he didn't like.

Now my laptop is password protected and there's a specific guest setting for anybody that's not me to use. Also, I try not to date psychos.

GS: What's your favorite or most memorable thing you've gotten to do as part of Gizmodo?

EC: Meeting Brando in Hong Kong was a very surreal moment and it was thrilling to know that he was a fan. I think that sometimes I forget that millions of people are reading us, and some of those people are making the things we talk about all the time. And then you meet one of them and you're kind of like "whoa, why are you even giving me the time of day? You're awesome!" I love that I got the opportunity to do that.

Rachel Maddow Talks Inauguration and Bush's Plans

Rachel Maddow took the stage at the TCAs in LA yesterday to promote her wildly popular new show and recent skyrocket to fame. She was friendly and responsive, cracking a few jokes and giving us an idea of what her show will be like as President Bush makes way for President Obama. She likened MSNBC's inauguration plan to "the Mars landing" in its intricacy and talked about how she hopes to be able to take it in as a whole and focus on what an incredible moment it is. Plus, don't worry, she knows she'll still find "idiocy" in Washington to make fun of. Here are some highlights:

On Wednesday's brunch with Obama: He answered whatever we wanted. He was totally forthcoming and didn't 'no comment' us on anything. It was a lot of wonky people in the room asking wonky questions. It wasn't 'How does it feel to be getting inaugurated right now?' 'How do you feel about this historic moment?' It was very much 'This is what I think about Yemen.' 'This is what I think about Guantanamo.' He's as wonky as I am which is extreme.
On President Bush's plans post-inauguration: He gives his big speech [last night] and then he goes away! For as long as he possibly can. And then no international travel, probably, for the rest of his life.
On her show post-Bush: I don’t think we are at risk of idiocy going out of fashion in Washington so wherever there are bad ideas I will find ways to make fun of them. Sometimes it will be bad democratic ideas, sometimes it will be bad republican ideas. Beating up on George Bush now feels like, I’d rather not. . . I will be replacing lame duck quack-itude, there will be something with a funny sophomoric sound effect.

On the SNL skit parodying her: I thought it was very funny.
On herself in high school: Can anybody actually say with any accuracy what they were like in high school or do we look at it through rose-colored glasses? I got good grades but I also got detention, a lot. I would cut class to go to the doughnut shop and hang out with my friends. I did a lot of sports. I was a three sport varsity athlete - basketball, swimming, volleyball.

The president of MSNBC was by her side and couldn't stop gushing about the network's newest rising star. We're all watching to see what she does next.

Parents Tell Their Stories Of Their Delivery Day

Jennifer, 32 - 1st time Mom

What was going through your mind?

Yipe, I am finally going to have a baby. The 32+ years of waiting is coming to an end. My dream is coming true. Help... this is likely to hurt! Scared, I hope all is OK with the baby. A lot of different emotions, an up and down roller coaster!

Did you know what to expect or were you totally surprised?

I had read the books and done the classes but nothing can fully prepare you, as no two people are the same.

Did anything funny or unusual happen on your delivery day?

Funny... No.

Unusual, I was much calmer that I thought

How did you get through it?

Knowing that the end result would be my dream come true! They told me that within 24 hours of having my waters broken I would have a baby. It took me 23 hours! I just took it hour by hour.

The support of my husband and the nurses! I had a stress ball that I squeezed to death.

Was labor difficult? How long did it last?

I would not say I had a difficult labor until the last hour. I loved watching the monitor, seeing the heartbeat, etc. Watching the contractions 23 hours is a long time to be awake and giving birth - I was so tired by the end. Unfortunately I ended up with tearing very badly and ended up having to have two operations to fix it all. But at the end of the day I have my Dillon.

What was it like giving birth to a baby?

An amazing experience.

What advice would you give to an expecting mom about her delivery day?

You will get through it.
The end result is worth all of it.
Take each step one step at a time.
Go with you gut instincts, it is your body!

Stacy, 31 - Birth of her 2nd child

What was going through your mind?

I remember thinking about my older son a lot during my second delivery. I kept wondering how he would be with his new brother, knowing very well how drastic his life would change. I spent a lot of time thinking about what the baby would look like... pretty shallow, I know!

Did you know what to expect or were you totally surprised?

I wasn't surprised. I was more calm with the second delivery because I deemed myself more of an expert by then! Everything went very smoothly on that day and I didn't have any surprises.

Did anything funny or unusual happen on your delivery day?

The fondest memory of that special day was when my older son came to the hospital and his aunt had picked him up from school and brought him to the store to buy the new baby a present. He comes walking through the door with the softest little stuffed animal that he could find and laid it on the bed next to the new baby. It was priceless.

In the delivery room, my husband had me in stitches during a contraction. He was joking around with me and it was so hard not to laugh! Since I was having a contraction, I wasn't able to fully laugh since my mind was obviously elsewhere!!

How did you get through it?

I knew going into this delivery that I wanted an epidural, so I didn't allow myself a lot of pain. As soon as I started to feel like it was enough, I asked for the epidural. During my first delivery, I struggled with whether or not I wanted pain medication and I remember the nurse saying something like all mothers get the same reward in the end, drugs or not! So, this time, I didn't struggle with it! I went in knowing that was my plan and asking for it as soon as I felt like I needed it.

My husband was all the support that I really needed. He didn't have to do or say anything. Just knowing that he was there, holding my hand -- that was enough for me.

Was labor difficult? How long did it last?

My labor wasn't difficult with this baby. My first contractions started at 10pm one night, but they were mild enough that I could sleep through them. We went to a scheduled OB appointment at 9am and we went to the hospital at 10am. My son was born at 2:51pm. So, if you count from the first contraction, it lasted about 17 hours. But I only pushed twice and the baby was born when I wasn't even pushing! That part was very quick.

What was it like giving birth to a baby?

It was very emotional, very draining. I can honestly say that if it hadn't been for the epidural, I would have been up and around an hour after the delivery. I felt great. I was in great spirits. I had a lot of energy by then. I was ready for anything!!

The unconditional love was immediate. It was amazing to me that I gave birth to a little something and that I would be in charge of formulating his life! What a rush to think about!!

What advice would you give to an expecting mom about her delivery day?

Be prepared for anything. Be organized and ready for the unexpected. I stressed about what I would do with my older son if I were in labor in the middle of the night. In that case, you have to have plans in place in the event that older children are involved.

Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. I was so stubborn on that day that I didn't want to tell the nurse that the IV that she put in my hand was killing me! It hurt so badly and it was in for the whole day, but I didn't want to tell her about it because I didn't want to seem like a nag!! How pitiful was that? Instead, I endured unnecessary pain because I didn't want to impose on that nurse!!

Things happen so quickly that day. Remember everything!! Write things down. Your child will want to know about the day that he was born!!!

Leslie, 29 - 1st time Mom

What was going through your mind?

Well, when my water first broke, I was so excited. My heart just raced thinking the baby would be born soon. I was completely ready to have him. I never once remember being scared.

Did you know what to expect or were you totally surprised?

I knew everything to expect, and even though labor was painful, I was amazed at the whole process (and still am).

Did anything funny or unusual happen on your delivery day?

Does telling my parents to "LEAVE NOW" count?

How did you get through it?

My husband was very supportive. Trying to relax also helped, but I would say the epidural saved the day! I think staying focused on the process helps if you have a normal labor time, but that's hard to do when you're in labor as long as I was (longer than 12 hours).

Was labor difficult? How long did it last?

Initially labor wasn't bad (when the water broke), and it wasn't too bad up until I was dilated 6-8 cm. After that, the pain is absolutely indescribable. It hurt to the core of my bones. My body was shaking with every contraction. I wasn't going to use an epidural, but after 4-5 agonizing hours I finally begged for it. From the time my water broke to actual delivery was 22 hours and 15 minutes.

What was it like giving birth to a baby?

Giving birth with an epidural wasn't that bad. I guess the only thing is that I couldn't seem to push as hard as I needed to because of the epidural. The baby had a hard time coming out, so they had to use the vacuum. Once he started coming out, it was like he just slipped out.

What advice would you give to an expecting mom about her delivery day?

Don't try to be a martyr for the natural childbirth cause. Try to relax, stay focused, and BREATHE (it really does work!)!!!

I flew out to a conference in Chicago two weeks before my wife's due date. The night before the conference was to begin, I sat in the hotel restaurant with some other people talking about the upcoming birth of my son. One of the women I was dining with began encouraging me to go home. She kept saying, "What if it happens while you are gone?" The more she said this, the more anxious I became. I began to feel this sense of immense distance between Chicago and Atlanta -- if my wife went into labor, it was possible I wouldn't get back in time. I pictured myself waiting for a plane to board while my wife was in another city delivering my first child. I called my wife, but she had just seen the doctor, and he said it wouldn't happen anytime soon.

When I woke up the next morning, though, I was so tense and full of anxiety that I raced to the airport instead of going to the conference. It was a long day getting back to Atlanta, with flight delays and other hassles. I was out of touch with my wife the whole day, and she didn't know I was coming back. I was so uptight by the time I was off the plane that I almost ran to my car in the airport parking lot. I called my wife on my cell phone. When she answered the phone, she seemed very baffled to learn I was back in Atlanta. "Why'd you do that?" she asked.

I was just relieved to be back in the general vicinity. No way was I going to miss the birth of my first born! I didn't care if it was a month away--I wasn't going out of town again until it happened.

I got home about 7pm, and went to sleep about 10pm. My wife woke me up an hour later and said her water had broken. We left for the hospital that night, and our son was born the next day.

This just goes to show that there's no way to tell for certain when it is going to happen.

Bond Girl Olga's In Style

While lovely Rachel Bilson graces the cover of this month's InStyle magazine, Quantum Of Solace star Olga Kurylenko is also featured inside. She gave the magazine a little insight into her experiences of making the movie, as well as confessing her troubles finding a man. Here's some excerpts:

Working on set with the Quantum crew: “English is not my first language, so the film crew would often…er…take the mickey out of me, they’d tell me these wild stories that I’d believe, then later say it was a joke!”
On her Bond girl character, Camille: “…She kicks ass! I did weapons training, body flight training for aerial scenes and stunt work for fighting.”
On her co-star Daniel Craig: “He’s a really nice man, so supportive and encouraging. And very funny”
On her ideal man: “I know lots of lovely, intelligent men who’d make wonderful boyfriends…but they are all gay!”

Pop Preview: Superhero Movie

Last night I went to see a press screening of Superhero Movie, from the stable of Airplane!, The Naked Gun and the Scary Movie series.

I didn't have high hopes for this film, as spoof movies have been getting progressively worse over the past few years (Meet The Spartans anyone?), but I was actually pleasantly surprised.

It doesn't start well – in fact the first fifteen minutes are filled with bad jokes – but as I was watching I remembered that the film is certified 12A – and I think younger teens will get a good few kicks out of those minutes. Once Leslie Nielsen appears it becomes pretty enjoyable for the rest of the audience. He and Marion Ross play nicely into that nostalgia bracket and you can tell Nielsen's made his career out of his great comic timing and line delivery.

Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development) manages to completely steal the couple of scenes he is in – his fast-paced, full-of-nonsense doctor even manages to make a couple of really bad jokes amusing. A few American references left the screening room silent, but there were giggles at the internet gags that some have said are grating.

Drake Bell plays the lead, nerdy Rick Riker aka Dragonfly, and I enjoyed his performance – the part's a little bland and relies on him reacting a lot, but he had a few shining moments in the midst of the insanity. Confession time: Kids TV show Drake And Josh is one of my guilty pleasures, where super-cool Drake Parker and nerdy Josh Nichols (aka Josh Peck of upcoming movie The Wackness) play a very amusing Odd Couple-like pair of step-brothers, so – for me – it was great to see him on the big screen. You might remember him as the kid who tells Tom Cruise where to go in Jerry Maguire, and he's also a musician with a couple of McFly-esque albums under his belt. Drake also performs the theme to the movie over the credits. Plus, as you may have guessed by now, I think he's pretty cute.

But enough about him, in summary, some of the movie feels a little old now, but there are a handful of laugh out loud moments that should make it worth your while. Leslie Nielsen and Jeffrey Tambor are both very funny, and while some of the set pieces do play to a teen audience, others had us all laughing. If spoofs are your thing then check it out in the cinema – the movie's at UK cinemas from Friday – but otherwise... wait for the DVD.
