Fashionable Freida Knows There's No Turning Back

Freida Pinto got all glammed up for the March cover of Vogue India. Things seem to be getting better and better for Freida in the wake of Slumdog Millionaire's success, from her rumored new romance to multiple magazine spreads and her upcoming role in a Woody Allen film. While posing for this gorgeous shoot, Frieda talked about her stylish new life. She said, "I'm in fittings day in and day out. . . I think I'm getting spoilt, I've become so much more aware of the fashion world recently - and I'm doomed now. There's no turning back." Something tells us there's no turning back for Freida's career now, even though award season is over.

Love it or Hate it? Victoria Beckham for Vogue India

Victoria Beckham has already blessed the cover of British Vogue this year but now she's headed East to star on the cover of Vogue India. Victoria declares in the magazine that, "I've never played safe with my image," which is definitely true. The cover labels Victoria as an 'Indian Bride' as she poses in a peach sari. I think she looks really beautiful and it's great to see her face looking so natural. What do you think of her cover style?

Posh Lets Her Hair Down as an Indian Princess

Victoria Beckham posed in extensions and got dressed up in traditional Indian garb for the November bridal issue of Vogue India. Posh looked gorgeous wearing an embellished wedding day sari and said she felt "like an Indian princess" in the gown while complimenting its craftsmanship. It's fun to see Victoria changing up her style and having fun with a new look, and maybe she'll even get a chance to visit India when the Beckhams are back to living overseas.

Fab Flash: Vogue India Launches

The inaugural issue of Vogue India hit stands today, featuring Bollywood stars Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra and Preity Zinta, local supermodels MoniKangana Dutta and Laxmi Menon, and Australian supermodel Gemma Ward all on the cover, shot by fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier.

This new edition of Vogue is expected to be more colorful and more vibrant than the western models, according to Alex Kuruvilla, managing director of Conde Nast India. He also expects it to draw attention to Indian designers, Indian photographers, and even Indian models. The Vogue India woman has the best of both the eastern and western worlds: she wears Jimmy Choo shoes along with her traditional Indian garb.

Fab Flash: Gemma Ward the Inaugural Face of Vogue India

Gemma Ward is one lucky lady! She not only got to appear on the inaugural cover of Vogue China two years ago (below), but she just recently shot the cover of the debut issue of Vogue India, which is expected to appear in September. I love Gemma, but I think it is interesting that they chose her for the first covers of both the Chinese and Indian Vogues. What do you all think?

Vogue India Has Poor Model Luxury: Tasteless or Beautiful?

Vogue India decorated poor women dressed in worn clothing with luxury status items. In one editorial photo spread a baby dons a Fendi bib, and in another a toothless woman holds a Burberry umbrella. Considering that 456 million live on $1.25 a day in India, there aren't too many families that can dress their babies in $100 bibs.

Critics say the spread makes light of nightmarish poverty in India- for example, thousands of Indian farmers have killed themselves over the last decade because of debt. But the editor of Vogue India told the New York Times that critics need to "lighten up," and that the editorial expressed the fact that:

[F]ashion is no longer a rich man's privilege. Anyone can carry it off and make it look beautiful. You have to remember with fashion, you can’t take it that seriously. We weren’t trying to make a political statement or save the world.

While some may say the photo shoot brings fashion to the people, I can see how others could argue that it glamorizes serious human suffering.

Mischa's Still Talking About Marissa

Mischa Barton worked her smoky-eyed stare and cute dresses for the January issue of Vogue India. Lately most Mischa stories are about her DUI back in December, but these photos remind us of that California blonde we fell in love with on TV. It's probably about time that we stop the Marissa/Mischa comparisons, but if she's still doing it, we figure we can too. In the article, she talks about her interesting sense of style and handling the pitfalls of fame. Here are highlights:

On her character's death: "I do think that Marissa had run her course, not for any reason other than that the writers were drawing blanks as to where to go. She went through too much too quickly, she was a wild card and this was making her consistently difficult to play. It just seemed right, as sad as it was."
On her fashion sense: "I feel like Marissa was modelled after me-we had similar styles, but since Marissa was born and raised in California she was more casual. I am more eclectic. I'm influenced by everything-movies, photography, travel. I love to pair vintage pieces with current."

On being a celebrity: "Fame is a challenge, but if your heart is really in your work then you can overcome that. I think you either have your head on your shoulders or you don't. I'm really close to my family and am lucky to have friends in lots of cities who for the most part aren't actors, or have 'normal' jobs, which takes my mind off the industry I'm in."
On trying to keep her privacy: "For me it's the absolute worst when people call you fat or make fun of the way you look, because it really hurts. I'm quite a softy, so things like that can make me depressed."

While Mischa downplays the time she spends with her entourage of very famous friends, we know she's still a part of that LA starlet set. At the end of the day though it's humbling to see she's still got insecurities like the rest of us.
