Fab Tip: Squeaky Clean Your Patent

It had been a while since I last popped into Yves Saint Laurent, so I just took another Fab field trip. I'm so glad I did because besides leaving with a brand new patent wallet (yay!) - a smaller, gray version of this Yves Saint Laurent Belle De Jour Wallet ($575) - I also left with a helpful tip on how to squeaky clean patent.

When the dad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding said Windex is the solution for everything, I didn't believe him. I'm officially a believer after the YSL specialist told me to use it to clean my patent leather wallet. He said to take an old t-shirt, spray the wallet or any other patent leather item with a few spritzes of Windex ($6), and wipe it clean. I definitely had a duh moment - I'm glad I heard it from a professional.

I'm serious when it comes to investing in a wallet. I carry mine practically everywhere I go, so looks and function are key. My current one is getting raggedy so I'm thinking about a replacement. This Marc by Marc Jacobs Jelly Jacquard Wallet ($148) is kitschy cool, but I'm afraid it's too trendy. What do you think?

Fab Finding Follow Up: Braving Black Friday

Fashionistas, there's no way you can let Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the biggest shopping day of the year, fall through the cracks. The sales are huge, and I insist on taking advantage!

You'll want to wear comfortable shoes - since you'll be running around all day - and your ensemble has to be streamlined so you can try things on quickly.

You might say Lara Bohinc has earned herself some serious bragging rights. She's collaborated on jewelry for both Gucci and Lanvin, and she currently works as a design consultant for Cartier.

It all started ten years ago, when the Slovenian-born designer started her eponymous line straight out of school. Since then, her chunky jewelry, knot motifs, and architectural metalworking has gathered a client base that reads like a VIP list: Madonna, Kate Moss, SJP, Cameron Diaz, Christina Aguilera, and Gwen Stefani. Her most recent development is a collection of fine jewelry, which starting last month is being sold exclusively at Harrods in London.

Fab Flash: Tumi To Debut Women's Handbag Line

If you have a dad, brother, boyfriend, or husband, chances are you've purchased a wallet, briefcase or luggage for them from Tumi, the 32-year-old accessories brand known for its travel gear. Come next month, you'll be able to pick up a Tumi handbag or two for yourself as well! It has been reported that, under the direction of executive creative director David Chu, the accessories brand is expanding into the women's market with four new handbag collections.

The line of bags is going to combine functionality with an everyday style, so don't expect to see any crazy designs. All the new pieces will first be sold exclusively at Tumi stores until Spring 2008. After that, you'll be able to find Tumi handbags at Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.

Created by Italian designer Marcella Foschi, these wallets are actually hand made from real (Italian) cassette tapes. Geek chic and Italian - be still my heart.

Designer Spotlight: Tusk

I always get compliments on my Tusk wallet (see below). I have been a Tusk devotee for a few years now; these fine leather goods are great quality for great prices. Asian influences are evident throughout the Italian leather goods in spicy, saturated colors through hand-applied vegetable dyes. Sleek organic lines and sumptuous textures are trademarks of a Tusk accessory.

With a 50-year old family-owned factory in India behind them, the Tusk design team in New York City launched the company in 1993. Evoking the Hindu elephant god Ganesh, the symbol of harmony and good fortune that removes all obstacles. In 1999, Tusk added exquisitely designed top grain leather handbags to their line. Get in Gear: Nike Running Wallet

Recently I've been running outside in my cute gym style shorts, but the problem is that pocket space is limited or nonexistent. Running without any form of ID, house key and a little cash are totally out of the question for me so I went on a hunt for a small wallet to use while working out.

Nike's Running Wallet ($8.00) is a great option. The wallet simply clips onto the tongue of your sneakers and if you're worried about it being secure enough, you can tie your laces over the wallet. This little wallet is small enough for cash and keys and while an ID would not fit inside (nor would bank cards), there is a space on the clip to write your contact information. For only eight bucks, it's worth a try for anything you may be doing where you won't be able to carry important (small) items. Buy it from REI.com.
