How-To: Remove Strippable Wallpaper

Back in August of last year, I tested out Graham & Brown's Paste the Wall wallpaper, which you install by pasting the wall itself rather than the paper when hanging, and which is meant to peel off in full sheets. When I tested removing it, I found that it did peel off in full sheets, with no paper residue. But after a year or so when it was time to remove the paper, some of the paper liner was left on the walls when I peeled it off. Luckily, it was really easy to remove. Want to learn how?

Coveted Crib: A Paper-Perfect Studio Loft

If I had my druthers, I probably wouldn't choose to live in a studio. But if I had to, I cannot imagine a more perfect space than this studio loft in Lägenhet, Stockholm (which is for sale). With tall ceilings, a bed and extra storage are tucked up high, making for a true living room. The apartment's bright white walls and beautiful natural light expand the space, while a select few gorgeously wallpapered walls give it depth and serious style. The kitchen has streamlined modern white cabinetry and one of my favorite elements: concrete countertops. The bathroom is complete with a towel warmer (woot!), a washer/dryer, and a sharp zebrawood sink basin. And better yet, it boasts what every girl dreams of: a walk-in closet. Nice and New: Fresh Finds at Ferm Living

One of my favorite wallpaper retailers, Ferm Living, has a few new things in store that I'm really loving. First of all, I think the way this Sewing Kit Wall Sticker ($57.50) is staged is absolutely hilarious. I think it would be clever to use it around a window or doorway in your home, especially one that doesn't have a lot of molding. See a few other new things when you read more.

I'm really digging the graphic, prismatic pattern of the new Monroe Wallpaper ($126.50). The black and gold have a really midcentury vibe, so I'd like to see it in other colors. But I think this would look great in a man's home office or small powder room with a statement-making chandelier.

I also absolutely adore the pattern and the palette of the new Peacock Pillow ($110). I only wish it complemented the colors in my home.

And last but certainly not least, the Tree Bomb Thermo Mug ($33) is so glam and hip. I'd use it to store jewelry or knickknacks, or as a votive holder.

Before and After: An Old Sideboard Gets a Hip Makeover

Aside from its missing drawer handle, there's nothing really wrong with this old sideboard. It has a rich color and a beautiful glossy finish. But, sad as it may be, this style of wood furniture is not very of-the-moment. Everyone wants to paint, paint, paint these days. And wallpaper. Paint and wallpaper, paint and wallpaper. I think there should be a balance of both. You've got to mix some wood pieces in with your painted, metal, and plastic ones.

I think it looks great! The marine paint really makes the sideboard's ornate shape stand out, and the two papered drawers add a whimsical touch. Lately, the trend is to paint furniture in high-gloss, but I really like the matte finish of this piece. It seems less frivolous and more timeless than glossy pieces. What do you think?

Get the Look: That '70s Style of The Box

The Box, the new thriller from Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly, tells the story of a financially troubled married couple who receive a box containing a button. The next morning, a creepy mysterious stranger tells them that they will receive $1 million if they push the button, but someone in the world will die. The movie, which is based on a short story by Richard Matheson, is set in Richmond, VA, in the year 1976, so there's plenty of fun, funky styling to the set. Cool Idea: Patchwork Wallpapering

This feminine bedroom, styled by Bazaar Style author and stylist Selina Lake, was featured in BBC Homes and Antiques magazine.

I love how a patchwork of vintage wallpapers was used to create this feminine boudoir background. Not only does it give the room a nostalgic, period look, but since it really only requires wallpaper samples, it's also a very affordable. Furthermore, you don't have to be in love with each wallpaper because the patchwork effect overrides the dated look of the individual designs. There's strength in numbers!

Casa Quickie: Plywood Pleasure

Can't afford to wallpaper your whole room? Not allowed to wallpaper your rental? Instead, cover a cheap sheet of plywood or even cardboard with a patterned wallpaper. This trick still makes an artistic statement, but it's not permanent and it's also portable. Take it with you when you move! You can make more of an impact by papering a couple of panels, or several, and placing them around your room to give it cohesion. Check out House & Home for more budget-saving tips.

Nice and New: Barbara Hulanicki Flock For Graham & Brown

Legendary fashion designer Barbara Hulanicki, who founded the iconic London boutique Biba in the '60s, is taking her signature art-nouveau style to the walls. She has created Graham & Brown's Flocked Collection, including five exclusive flocked wallpaper designs - Skulls, Ophelia, Shoes, Baroque, and Antoinette. Flocked wallpaper has a history over three centuries long. But like Hulanicki, it did have a heyday in the '60s and '70s, so it's a very fitting collection.

The papers go for $125 for a double roll, which is pretty reasonable for such luxurious material. Baroque, with a Victorian-inspired geometric pattern, and Ophelia, with a sophisticated floral pattern, are the most tame of the designs. Meanwhile, Skulls, Shoes, and Antoinette have more playful, eccentric imagery. Maybe it's just because Halloween is near, but I'm really drawn to Skulls. It has a mischevious quality that's almost shocking, because you don't recognize the pattern right away; I'd love to use it in a small dark corner of my home.

Vivienne Westwood Debuts Wallpaper Collection For Cole & Son

Brit fashion designer Vivienne Westwood's apparel may be too punky to wear for some, but her new collection of wallpaper for Cole & Son has just enough whimsy for every house. From her iconic Squiggle print of Fall/Winter 1981-92 to her more recent Cutout Lace of Spring/Summer '07, all of her wallpapers are based on signature designs from her fashion collections.

"It is good when my ideas get carried over into other artistic media," she says. She's right about that. Her Squiggle print has always been a favorite, so I'd love to dress my walls with it. See the designs when you read more.
