Isla Fisher Lands Two New Movie Roles!

Isla Fisher's career has yet to live up to my expectations. I loved her in Wedding Crashers - who else can hold their own against Vince Vaughn the way she did? - but then Definitely, Maybe and Confessions of a Shopaholic weren't the launch into leading lady status that I'd hoped they'd be. Earlier this year, we heard that she was working on a film script with Amy Poehler, but we still haven't seen her on the big screen in months. Too long if you ask me.

But wait! This week's casting news reveals that Fisher has two new films in the works at Universal. First up is Life Coach, about a woman who consults - wait for it - a life coach. The second project is a rom-com based on a French script titled, Un Jour Mes Princes Viendront or in English, One Day My Princes Will Come.

With so few details at this point, it's hard to say whether either film will prove to be Fisher's big breakthrough, but I really want to see her career take off as the A-list funny lady I know she can be. I'm keeping my fingers crossed - how about you? Are you excited to see Isla Fisher get more work?

The Office: Best Lines of the Night

For last week's premiere of The Office, I recapped some of the hilarious quips from the employees at Dunder Mifflin. They usually don't disappoint, but I've got to say I didn't find the latest episode quite as uproariously funny. Hopefully the writers are just saving their creative juices for the sure-to-be-killer Jim and Pam wedding episode. (Start the countdown - only 13 days left!) Not that there weren't a few lines sprinkled throughout the show that made me howl, and I loved the surprise at the end of the episode. Let's discuss, shall we? Here are my favorite quotes of the evening along with a few key moments. Check 'em out, and then add your own in the comments (Oh, and needless to say, there's one pretty huge spoiler in the mix).

"My main concern is, should I have a safe word?" - Michael
The opening of the show was classic, excruciatingly inappropriate Michael Scott material. I couldn't believe that he went so far as to consult Oscar about his colonoscopy and what to expect . . . okay, or maybe I can believe it. It's Michael Scott.

I sort of loved this bit when Michael sneaks into the secret meeting between Jim and David, using a cart as his Trojan Horse. Ridiculous. They really should've milked it a little bit more.

"I'm rebuilding a steam engine in my slaughterhouse."-Dwight

First of all, how scary is it that Dwight owns a slaughterhouse? Secondly, seeing him team up with Toby to uncover Darryl's faux work accident was inspired. I like those two together, and now that Dwight's the odd man out in the work caste system - more on that if you keep reading - they should start being BFFs.

"Jim is like Big Bird. He is tall and yellow and very nice. But would I put him in charge . . . I don't think so. Big Bird doesn't make the tough decisions. I would put Burt in charge . . . or maybe Maria." - Michael

Maybe I'm just a sucker for Sesame Street references, but this was my favorite quote of the evening. Period. But let me say this: I sort of hated Michael for bad-mouthing Jim, so that David wouldn't promote the poor guy. Well, that is until it ends up backfiring and Jim got a bump up the ladder anyway . . . to co-manager . . . alongside Michael. (Like I said, spoiler!) I cannot wait to see how this plays out. I mean, did you see the look on Dwight's face? Amazing.

Katie Takes Alex to Pal's Wedding Ahead of NY Marathon

Katie Price took Alex Reid to her friends' wedding yesterday, and cosied up to her new boyfriend at the Mayfair Hotel in London after the ceremony. Although reports suggest she is getting ready to dump Alex, Kate kept the cage fighter by her side as she left for the service in her tiara and dressing gown (having caused speculation when she tried on the bridesmaid dress). Kate is reportedly keen to quell any negative reports about her relationship with Alex, and is apparently consulting lawyers following Peter Andre's accusation that Junior caught the new couple in bed together. She is also focusing on the future, and after completing the London Marathon she has set herself a new goal, tweeting: "woo i can confirm im doing the New York marathon november 4th for charity start training next week".

Pop Watch: Brothers & Sisters, Ep 8 "Something New"

The last few episodes of Brothers & Sisters have been pretty intense, so I was super-pleased that last night's installment had fun and laughs and lots of romance, as well as cameo appearances (Lyle Lovett) and new characters (Steven Weber as Graham).

The opening of the episode was a good indication of what was to come, with Nora's five children gathered with her at the house trying to help Kitty decide what song to pick for her and Robert's first dance, with them all talking about what song they lost their virginity to, including Nora (much to Justin's horror)! This leads on to Nora emailing her first love Stan Harris (played by Chevy Chase) to meet for dinner, while all five of her children experience important moments in their romantic relationships.

When Robert arrives at Nora's, Kevin learns that Jason has spoken to Robert a couple of times but still hasn't returned any of Kevin's calls. He returns home and asks Scotty to be his guest at the wedding. A little later on, Scotty brings leftover lobster back for dinner and Kevin starts talking about getting candles out. You can fight it all you want Kevin - we all know you and Scotty are meant to be!
Kitty visits Rebecca and thanks her for her help with Justin and, in a prime example of how much Kitty has changed this series, she asks Rebecca to be her bridesmaid. When Rebecca is shocked as she didn't even know whether she was going to be invited to the wedding, Kitty says that of course she is as she's her sister. They share a really sweet moment and hug it out. Yay!
Over at Ojai Saul and Sarah are speaking with private consultant Graham (played by Steven Weber), who is encouraging them to employ his services to expand into China. Sarah looks interested, and I'm not talking about the business deal. When Sarah is trying on bridesmaids' dresses a little later on, Graham calls her to invite her to dinner to talk about the options. Any excuse hey?

Over at the vineyard Tommy tells Holly he has broken it off with Lena, who arrives a few seconds later in a skimpy top with Tommy's favourite pastry. She answers the phone and it's Julia, who is actually right outside with Lizzie! Tommy introduces his wife to his ex-mistress and it is awkward city, with Tommy quickly ushering his family out of the door. Holly asks Lena if she wants to keep her job, and when she says yes Holly replies "You might want to rethink the work wardrobe". Heh. Back at home, Julia apologises to Tommy and says she wants things to go back to how they were, which Tommy's in total agreement with. There's no way this reunion is going to go smoothly, is there?
Kitty and Robert are at a dance studio to learn a few steps, and things get tense when Kitty struggles but Robert knows all the moves and wants to go and deal with the campaign rather than sort out their first dance. Kitty is clearly struggling with this not being Robert's first wedding, which becomes even more obvious when she's trying on Nora's wedding dress back at home - not even her dress is new. Nora comes in all dressed up for her date, and Justin pulls Rebecca aside to apologise for all the things he said to her in last week's episode, but their conversation is interrupted by a phone call from my favourite character: yep, it's Lena asking him to meet her. Urgh.

Nora is so adorable on her date with Stan, talking ten to the dozen about the traffic and then when he compliments her she says "Don't look too close, my neck looks like someone's curtains". Love Nora! They both admit they're nervous, but manage to share a really great evening. So much so that they agree to go out the following night, and Stan drives Nora to the place they saw Bob Dylan (and where they first did "it"). They sit in the open-top car, reminiscing and listening to "Girl From the North Country" (one of my favourite Dylan songs) and Nora invites him to Kitty's wedding.
While Nora's getting happy with Stanny, Kevin's getting kissy-kissy with Scotty! They had fallen asleep on each other on the sofa and when they woke up they couldn't help themselves. We later see Kevin in his office, finally getting to speak to Jason on the phone. He's overwhelmed to hear Jason's voice, but says they need to talk. Ooh, that always spells trouble ...
Tommy is just about to leave the house (and a sleeping Julia) when his phone rings - it's Lena. He immediately gets angry with her for calling him, but she explains she's just phoning to let him know his meeting has been cancelled. Julia wakes up and asks what's going on, and Tommy says he'll make breakfast. There is no way Tommy is going to be able to deal with this situation, especially when he finds out what we all see, which is Lena going on a coffee date with Justin. They go back to her place and joke around and Justin gets ready to leave, but then he changes his mind and they start kissing. Nooo Justin, step away from the Lena.
Sarah, meanwhile, is at dinner with Graham. She tells him he's all too smooth with his Italian suits and business plans, but he says he can help the company get government subsidies to launch their international expansion. It's clear these two are attracted to each other, but there's something about this guy that I just don't trust. I hope I'm wrong.
Kevin returns to the flat to find Scotty packing, as things have got complicated. Kevin says that he's broken up with Jason and he wants to be with Scotty - even though it was messy before, Kevin now knows that he won't be happy if he takes the easy option. Yay for Kevin and Scotty!
Having been told by Holly that's she's turning into a shrinking violet and needs to speak her mind to the Walkers, Rebecca does exactly that at her and Sarah's next bridesmaid dress fitting. She says the colour's awful and it doesn't suit her or Sarah. When they talk about whether Julia would look good in the blue dress Kitty says "Julia looks good in anything", to which Sarah adds "Bitch". Love Sarah's biting one-liners. The beautiful dress that Kitty saw earlier ("the one") is now on sale and Rebecca tells her she shouldn't feel like she has to wear Nora's dress, so Kitty gets that "something new" she wanted.
Kitty tells Nora that she's found "the one" and Nora's fine about her daughter not wearing her wedding dress. In fact, Nora takes the dress to be dyed and altered so that she can wear it as part of her new life. Meanwhile, Robert takes Kitty to a campaign rally venue and surprises her with Lyle Lovett! He sings for the couple and they dance, with Robert telling Kitty "You make everthing new". Awww.

Your Baby: Eye-Opening Developments

The third trimester is a time of rapid growth -- for you and your baby. You might gain a great deal of weight -- and for good reason. Only 31 weeks, your baby weighs in at about 3 pounds 5 ounces (1590 g), and measures over 18 inches (46 cm) tall. Thanks to the deposits of white fat underneath the skin, the baby's color is changing from red to pink. At this point, the baby's irises dilate and contract in response to light, and his fingernails may extend to the end of the hands.

The organs are also in a growth period. Don't worry: Even if your lungs (and heart) make you feel breathless when you climb a flight of stairs or walk around the block, your womb mate is getting plenty of oxygen from your placenta.

Your Body: Planning For The Birth

Most first-time moms have mixed emotions and endless questions when it comes to labor and delivery. You may wonder how you will know when you're having a contraction, or when you should go to the hospital. You may be worried about what you can take for the pain. One of the easiest ways to get answers and ease your fears is to arm yourself with knowledge: Read books on childbirth, take notes during your childbirth education class, consult your health care practitioner, and ask friends and family to share their experiences.

Many women put together a birth plan to delineate their wishes for labor and delivery. It’s probably better to think about your “birth preferences,” because the inherent unpredictability of labor and birth makes it hard to have a plan.

So what’s to prefer? Births are a little like weddings – you’ve probably been to weddings that you think are lovely and tasteful and elegant, and you’ve been to others that you thought were vulgar and tacky. But the bride and groom chose to spend their day with that cake, those flowers, and that DJ – and it was right for them. Similarly, some women want to have a birth without any pain medicine and minimal medical intervention, and want to hold and bond with their baby immediately after birth, amniotic fluid and all. Other mothers would happily have an epidural placed before the first contraction, and would like their baby washed, with lots of soap, diapered, and dressed before touching him or her for the first time. Within the realm of what’s safe, there are lots of different “right” ways to have a birth. You and your partner should think about what works best for you.

The following are some of the key issues to think about what your preferences are, then ask your practitioner or talk to the hospital to learn about general policies. Discuss the risks and benefits of the various options. You may have to fill out specific forms or releases concerning many of these items ahead of time.

How do you feel about using medication for pain relief in labor? Do you want to try to go without pain medicine, or would you prefer to have anesthesia as early as possible?
Would you like to be able to labor in a tub or shower, if one is available at your chosen birthing center or hospital?
Is there anything you want to bring to the hospital? Check the hospital's guidelines about video cameras, music, pillows, lights, etc. Some hospitals may have rules regarding video taping the birth.
Who do you want to be present during labor? During delivery? Is there anyone you specifically want kept out of the room?
What is the role of your coach?
Is there a particular delivery position or procedure you would like follow? How do you feel about the use of stirrups to brace your legs? If you do not want to use stirrups, who will be with you to help hold your legs when you push?
Would you like to have a mirror in the room when you are pushing, so you can watch your baby emerge?
Do you have strong feelings about assisted delivery methods (forceps, vacuum extraction) or cesarean delivery?
Would you like to avoid an episiotomy, if possible?
If you have a cesarean, would you like your partner or coach to be present during the surgery?
Who do you want to cut the umbilical cord?
Do you want to hold your baby immediately after birth, or do you want her washed and swaddled before you meet her for the first time?
Do you have specific desires about a bonding period with the baby after birth?
Do you have strong feelings about receiving a routine IV to replenish your fluids?
Are you planning to breast feed? If so, how do you feel about having your baby stay in your room after delivery? Would you like to avoid pacifiers or supplements, unless ordered by your baby’s pediatrician?
Do you want anyone from the hospital to help you with breastfeeding, or to explain bottle-feeding or other baby care issues?
Do you want a male baby to be circumcised?

Some other issues routinely come up in books and web sites about birthing plans, but are rarely used at hospitals today. Check with your health care provider to make sure, but generally, you won’t be offered an enema, nor will your pubic area be shaved, unless you specifically request it.

Weekly Tip

A lot of moms and dads-to-be wonder if and when they will bond with their baby. An easy way to welcome and connect with your future arrival is to write a letter beforehand. Share your feelings about the pregnancy and about becoming a parent. Regale him with things friends or family have said or done, what you would do the same or differently if you could do it all over again. You can use it as a time to reflect on the past seven plus months and to relish the time left.

Dear DrSugar,
I am getting married and going on my honeymoon in less than a month. Yay! I just got diagnosed with a stress fracture of the inferior pubic ramus, presumably from too much running. Boo! My doc told me to limit my exercise to swimming or the arm cycle machine at the gym for at least the next four weeks. My concern is, since it is that my pubic bone that has the stress fracture, will I be able to have sex with my fiancé/husband or will that hurt the bone too?

First let me say congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Hopefully this injury won’t ruin the wedding or your honeymoon. The inferior pubic ramus is a bony structure in the pelvis, commonly referred to as the pubic bone. Stress fractures of the pubic ramus are fairly uncommon, but can occur in long distance runners, military recruits, and other athletes that sustain high impact activity for long periods of time. The damage to the pelvis develops because of repetitive impact that is absorbed by the pelvis while running. Common symptoms include groin pain while running, pain while standing or jumping on one leg, and pain when pressure is applied to the site of the stress fracture.

The good news is that the main treatment of pelvic stress fractures is to avoid running for at least a month, and perhaps longer, depending how long the pain persists. The average time to a full recovery is about 3-5 months. There are no specific recommendations against sex when you have a pelvic stress fracture, however it would be wise to avoid high impact motions or anything that causes groin pain - so you might need to experiment with different positions. A good rule of thumb when recovering from any stress fracture is to avoid painful activities and high impact activities like the ones that caused the injury in the first place. If you're not careful, your wedding budget can get out of hand. While beauty costs a lot less than flowers and feeding your guests, primping indulgences for the big day can add up to big dollars if you aren't careful.

What's the Biggest Lie You Were Told About Motherhood?

A friend of mine called me after she gave birth to her daughter and asked, "Why didn't you tell me all the crazy stuff that happens?"

The truth was, as the first in our group to have a child, I had no one with whom to compare notes. And, I didn't want to scare anyone.

I wasn't sure if everyone spotted for months after giving birth or if it was just me who stood in grocery store line two weeks postpartum thinking that my life had changed forever.

And, I didn't know becoming Dolly Parton a few days after delivering was the norm.

It was an unintentional lie of omission, but once I had my friend to consult it made being a mom (and bringing a subsequent child into the world) all the easier.

When someone said contractions don't hurt or that life after babe is a breeze, we'd call their bluff.

How to Answer Puzzling Interview Questions

What's up with kooky questions in unexpected places? From banks asking us about our favorite way to eat ice cream and interviewers asking what type of animal we'd like to be in another life, sometimes we're presented with questions that may feel undeserving of answers. Discriminatory interview questions involving family or religion can obviously be illegal, but did you know that simpler questions may be considered inappropriate, too?

Seemingly random questions can cross boundaries without the interviewer realizing they're being inappropriate. For example, an interviewer asking a candidate if her hair color is natural may pose problems. In a survey of job seekers and hiring managers, 43 percent of job seekers said asking questions unrelated to job skills is one of the most annoying aspects of an interview.

What should you do if an interviewer asks you a convoluted question? A human resources consultant gave the Wall Street Journal the following suggestions.

Take a moment and think about the motive behind the question.
Ask clarifying questions in response to try and understand the interviewer's question and avoid giving an equally perplexing answer.
If you know why they're asking the question, you have the option of deflecting it and giving them related information that doesn't directly answer the original question.
You can refuse to answer the question, but that probably wouldn't raise your chances of getting the job.
If an inappropriate question also seems illegal, you can choose to answer it or not. If you opt for the latter, try to cut the awkwardness by clarifying the question.
