Entertaining at home is one of my favorite activities of all time, but as with all hobbies, it requires lots of thinking ahead and decision-making, from planning a prep schedule to coordinating the menu. In this series, I'll present a dish and ask you to share what you'd serve alongside it.
Here's the scenario: You're having some old friends over this weekend to soak up the Summer sun over a laid-back lunch in your backyard.

Are you having a wedding on a budget? Or do you just want to preserve a few before-the-big-day moments in a photo session? Either way, going the DIY route is a totally do-able option — as long as you follow a few guidelines.

Earlier this week, candy collector Dylan Lauren — the fashionable founder of Dylan's Candy Bar and daughter of designer Ralph Lauren — offered some of her favorite ideas for making weddings a sweet occasion. We caught up with Lauren in person while she was in town at Neiman Marcus promoting her Barbie 50th Anniversary candy line. The candy entrepreneur took some time out of la dolce vita to talk to us about her favorite guilty pleasure and offer more suggestions for bringing candy into the party mix.

Just because you're shelling out a small fortune for your wedding and feel like the next dollar you part with is going to make you seriously nauseous, it doesn't mean that tipping etiquette can be thrown out the window. While you're focused on the big-picture price, your vendors are each providing a unique service and you, gracious bride, must be prepared to tip when appropriate. Just as your Friday night dinner bill jumps when tax and tip are added to the total, your vendor costs will also increase when you add these two Ts into the mix.

Wow, this is epic. I've seen performances at the VMAs not as coordinated as this one! Any woman who can shake her booty in a stiff, strapless wedding dress gets bonus points in my book.

After you and your fiancé have figured out what you can afford to pay for your honeymoon, the next step is to choose the ideal location to celebrate your new marriage. Costs can vary greatly depending on destination so it's best to come up with a short list of places that you'd love to visit. A list of three to five locations means that while your budget is fixed, you are flexible and will be able to find an affordable vacation in one of your options.

The day after my wedding, one of my bridesmaids and I, exhausted from the weekend's events, popped into a matinee of Mamma Mia. While our reviews were mixed (please, please let me never hear Pierce Brosnan sing again), one element of the film got an enthusiastic thumbs up: the gorgeous textiles. I was absolutely inspired by the film's bedding, tablecloths, and pillows.

I guess it's a rite of passage that you freak out before your wedding — whether it's over the flower arrangements, the cake, or your body. Although you should never stoop to crash dieting (I know Fit would tell you the same), it may actually help you to chill out by playing a video game. Bonus, if those games are interactive and get your blood pumping, you might just lose a few pounds while you're at it and tip the scales in your favor.

As if the recent demise of shelter favorite House and Garden wasn't enough bad news, now sources say that Blueprint is folding as well. According to fishbowlNY, the magazine billed as a "fresh, fun guide to personal style" apparently couldn't find enough of an audience. While not completely disappearing, Blueprint will be dialed back into a publishing schedule that will coordinate with Martha Stewart Weddings.
