Website of the Day: Project Wedding

Last week, I told you about seven awesome wedding websites to check out, but I had to call out Project Wedding on its own. Not only is Project Wedding an awesome place to get wedding tips and ideas and find planners and resources to help keep you on track (and on budget), but it also has an extensive vendor review section.

Unlike other websites, you don't have to sign up for an account to view Project Wedding's reviews. So you not only get free insider knowledge about reception sites, bakeries, musicians, officiants, and plenty more from actual customers, but the rest of the site is amazingly helpful as well. Check out other weddings to get inspired, and if you do happen to sign up for a free account, then you can submit your own reviews, start organizing your wedding, and even start your own wedding website.

I know that this long list looks scary, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it'll be a snap the second time around.

First of all, join the Website of the Day group.
Click the pink "Share" menu on the top left side of the page.
Choose "Blog" and "Regular Post."
Give your story a "Title."
Fill in the "Body" with a link to your favorite website and the reasons why you love it.
Click "Next."
Choose the audience for your story to "Website of the Day" in the dropdown menu.
Add keyword(s) (for example mine for this photo was "Website of the Day").
Change channel to "Technology and Gadgets."
Fill in tag field with relevant tags.
Click "I’m done" to submit content.

So join the Website of the Day group and share information about all your favorite sites! Yours just might end up on the geeksugar homepage!

It's a nice hub for people to visit in case they need additional details (or have lost their invitations), and there are so many fun things you can do online. But in the interest of not adding more stress to your wedding planning, I've compiled a few very easy options and services that do the work for you.

What to Do With Your Wedding Website - After the Reception

So you went to all that trouble to create a wedding website, uploaded photos, maps, write cute stories about how you met and about your wedding party - are you supposed to just let it turn into Internet dust? I'm sure you've thought to post your honeymoon photos on the site after the party, but have you thought about buying your domain (try GoDaddy) and then transferring your stuff into a blog?

Keep your family updated on your married life (but not too updated, you don't want to TMI Aunt Martha), and then, if you start a family, keep everyone abreast of that, too!

If you decide to buy your domain, and keep a blog about your new life (or simply photos), you could include a small card telling your guests as such in thank-you cards.

Why should just engaged couples have all the fun?

Websites To Help Plan Your Honeymoon

Even if you're the type of person that dedicates months or years to planning your actual wedding day, the honeymoon tends to always be one of those leisurely trips you purposely under plan. Whether you're a list maker, who tends to over organize and pack, or a "fly by the seat of your pants" type of traveler you'll want to plan a honeymoon that has a moderate schedule. Sure, you need time to decompress from your wedding, but what better way to bond with your new spouse than exploring a foreign place together? Here are some websites to consider when beginning the planning process.

Hint: Experts say to plan your honeymoon at least six months in advance to secure inexpensive flights and accommodations.

The Knot - I've already shared my love for this website when it comes to wedding planning, but it turns out it's just as helpful for planning your honeymoon. The site features honeymoon basics, ideas for Europe, Africa, Mexico, Hawaii and the Caribbean, as well as updated information about passport laws, a travel blog, guides to romantic resorts and even packing checklists.
Wedding Channel - This site has a simple guide to popular destination spots all over the world. You can check out photos, read about featured vacations, and get tips for romantic tropical, urban or adventure honeymoons.
The Honeymoon - Apparently, one of the hottest trends in wedding planning right now is a honeymoon registry, which allows your guests the chance to help send you on the honeymoon of your dreams. This site offers a complimentary registry and wedding web page; however, it does charge your guests a small service charge when they purchase a gift (it's about the same price as sales tax).

Now that it's officially wedding season there are about a gazillion anxious brides and grooms wondering how the heck they are going to pull it off in time for the big day. Whether you're an uber geek or just a geek in training, it seems the latest wedding must-have is a hip, clean and beautiful wedding website.

There's a great range here - some wedding websites chronicle the engagement through the wedding with photos, announcements and even message boards and some are simple one-pagers that announce the engagement or wedding day with few bells and whistles. While I'm far from designing a wedding website for myself, I've seen a handful of friends do it the right way, so I've put together some concise notes for all you geeky soon-to-be married folk. Step 1: What Do You Want To Share? Where Will You Share It
The first thing you have to do is decide how much information you want to share and put up on the website. If you want to announce your engagement to all your friends and family at the same time consider putting up a simple page with the picture of the two of you and a cute note about your engagement. I love when couples purchase a domain name that combines both their names, ie, JessicaandNick.com or AngelinaandBrad.com (note, yes, I made those up). You can purchase a domain name from Go Daddy for less than $10. Go Daddy will actually host a very simple site for you that can be configured like setting up a blog. If you want to host the site somewhere else, you can just have the domain name forwarded.

Step 2: How Detailed Will It Be?
When you begin creating the site take some time to consider how much detail you want to put on the site. There are some couples that start with a wedding website and later extend it to include photos of their children, vacations, funny videos and life accomplishments. Others create a website just for their wedding, but make it incredibly detailed, detailing not only the engagement, but an online invitation and RSVP form, links to online registries, the story of how the couple met, details

Step 3: Design It Yourself or Get Help?
If you're not a computer programmer or HTML savvy, I suggest going the easier route (after all, you have enough to worry about, don't you!) and picking an easy package from ewedding.com (this one is my favorite) or MyEvent (this option is good if you only want to put the website up temporarily because it's $10 a month). If you have money in your budget you can also consider hiring a designer to make the website look exactly like your invitation or wedding theme.

Step 4: Announce Your Site!
Once you have put the site together, make sure to send out an e-mail or handmade snail mail announcement to let your friends and family know about the site. Also, don't forget to send me the link - I love to live vicariously!

TheKnot - This is a good resource if you just want to put your wedding photos up on a simple page. Price: Free membership
Wedding Tracker - It started as a web-based wedding planning and management software, but you can make a simple, but elegant wedding website with photos and text. Price: $60 a year.

With a checklist to get you started and an extensive amount of search tools, The Knot will help you step by step. ewedding.com If you want to create your own wedding website, ewedding allows you to sign up for a free wedding website, add content to any beautiful theme, and share your website. You can also have online RSVP, collect best wishes in your own guestbook, upload unlimited photos, post events, dates, directions, and much more.
Wedding Channel.com If you just got engaged, the Wedding Channel will give you all the assistance you need to plan your dream wedding. Website of the Day: ColorJack

Sometimes a girl just needs a little help with picking out a palette. Whether it be for your home, your website, your wedding, whatever, ColorJack can help. Similar to Colourlovers, ColorJack helps you find colors that work together so you can stop worrying if a certain hue of purple clashes with your favorite color of pink and get down to business. Just move the dots around the color wheel to get six different (but totally workable) color options, and you're ready to export your palette to Illustrator or Photoshop, or save it as a web link for reference.
