What a Difference a Year Makes

A year ago, I was laid up in a hospital bed in the maternity ward ogling my little newborn. She was born exactly one year ago today and what a year it has been. From pushing to posting, my life has been forever changed. Here are some of the ways that motherhood has revealed herself:

An unconditional love and worry for a little being has overwhelmed me.
I can no longer sleep peacefully, unless I'm on vacation.
I know I have a little partner in crime (until she can speak at least).
I never eat alone.
My body will never be the same as it was when I was 18.
I prefer the smell of baby detergent over my own scented lotions.
I like to spend the night cuddling with my hubby on the couch instead of out on the town (most times).
Our friends and family don't care so much about us - just about her.

The thing is, I love and accept it 100 percent. I know there are times when it's hard, especially at the beginning. But it grows on you as your baby grows. I can't imagine life without her.

Movie Preview: Amy Adams in Leap Year

You can rarely accuse a romantic comedy of being original, and the set up for Leap Year is no different. Amy Adams stars as Anna, a woman who's waiting for her boyfriend (Adam Scott) to propose when she learns that according to Irish tradition, women are "allowed" to propose to men on February 29, leap day. She chases him to Dublin and when she's diverted to Wales, meets a handsome stranger (Matthew Goode) who makes her rethink her scheme and relationship. Stop groaning.

I know the movie sounds cliche and sexist, yet I can't dismiss anything with Adams in it - her charm is just too powerful! Seriously, though, amid the mildly offensive plot details and too-familiar setting (how many times have we seen that stuck-in-the-road-while-cows-cross scene?), Adams still shines along with her freakishly dreamy foil, Matthew Goode. Cosmopolitan's Ultimate Women of Year Celebrate Together

Our friends at Cosmopolitan UK held their Ultimate Women Of The Year Awards at London's Banqueting House last night. Winners included TV Personality of the Year Dannii Minogue and TV Presenter of the Year Holly Willoughby. Kimberley Walsh broke up all the black dresses in her white number and won the Woman's Woman award, while Lacey Turner picked up the TV Actress gong and Pixie Lott was named Newcomer of the Year. Brooke Kinsella was honoured as the Ultimate Celeb Who Made Us Care, the Funny Woman Award went to Ruth Jones and Freddie Filntoff was named Man of the Year.

Denise Van Outen was glowing on the red carpet following her pregnancy announcement. Alesha Dixon was one of the presenters at the ceremony, which was hosted by Fearne Cotton, and both women looked gorgeous in their LBDs. Louise Redknapp was daring in her gold dress while Sarah Brown dared to bare in her low cut number.

Rihanna Leads the Way With Amazing Women For Glamour

Rihanna stole the show in her dramatic white dress as she and her fellow honorees took the red carpet at last night's Glamour Women of the Year celebration in NYC. Carnegie Hall was brimming with beautiful ladies from Iman to Maria Shriver and Diane von Furstenberg. Catherine Zeta-Jones stood out in blue and had Michael Douglas by her side for support. Rih was just one of a handful of women who were chosen by the magazine, but all eyes were on her - and most of you are loving the look, just the latest in her fashion metamorphosis!

Padma Lakshmi showed off her growing baby bump while one of the evening's honorees Stella McCartney smiled big with her award up on stage where she also had some trouble with her super short skirt. Amy Poehler and Michelle Obama were two of the magazine's other women of the year, though the First Lady didn't attend the event since she was with her husband President Barack Obama visiting with families at Fort Hood. The night was full of inspirational and important females who spoke and mingled, celebrating each other and Glamour's picks. Rihanna and Stella Join Fellow Women of Year

Glamour Magazine's Women of the Year gathered at Carnegie Hall in New York City yesterday to celebrate each other's successes. Rihanna and Stella McCartney were amongst those honoured, and were joined by Estelle, who performed on stage. The 2009 Glamour Women of the Year awards in NYC celebrated the industry's most powerful women. Rihanna went for high drama, but Stella McCartney played it nonchalantly cool. The designer walked the red carpet in a look from her Resort line: a purple silk frock, a cropped black collarless jacket, and black pumps. Never one to go overboard with accessories, Stella added a touch of sparkle via diamond drop earrings. Perfection.

So dramatic, I couldn't resist. Rihanna showed up at Glamour magazine's 2009 Women of the Year event in NYC in a dramatic pleated ivory Stéphane Rolland Couture gown and Cartier jewels. It's one of those only she can pull off, and I believe she does. Do you?

Serena Williams Named Woman of the Year

Looks like having a potty mouth won't hurt you too much. Serena Williams is one of 11 outstanding ladies Glamour magazine has chosen for its Women of the Year issue.

Glamour cites Williams's competitive spirit and drive as a testament to her success, even in the face of hardships like the tragic murder of her sister Yetunde and her rise through the rankings after suffering injuries in 2006. This year it all came full circle for Williams when she captured the Wimbledon victory against her sister, Venus - whom she credits as being a major force in motivating her to work the hardest and become the best.

Besides her Wimbledon victory, Williams has 11 Grand Slam titles, two Olympic gold medals, and has earned more prize money than any female athlete in history. But her trophies and bank account aren't the only reason Glamour thinks Williams is tops. Between winning matches, she's managed to start her own clothing line, pen an autobiography, and open a school in Kenya through her Serena Williams Foundation.

Kym Marsh Is Mum of the Year and Back With Jamie

Kym Marsh has been named Bounty's Celebrity Mum of the Year at Manchester's Lowry Hotel today. The Coronation Street actress also revealed she is back together with Jamie Lomas, following their split last month. Kym, mother to 14-year-old David and 12-year-old Emily, lost her son Archie Jay in February this year after he was born 18 weeks premature. She beat 19 other celeb mums, including her former Hear'Say band mate Myleene Klass, Kate Moss, three Spice Girls and Katie Price, to be crowned the winner. Congratulations Kym!
