To *macgirl*... Ewww, if it's collection agencies calling for a previous owner... answer them, ask to speak to their supervisor & explain "she" doesn't live there anymore, you have NO IDEA where she went.. & if they don't stop the harassment against you then the police will be informed. - Another suggestion is change your phone number & only tell those you need to what that is. Lastly, inform your telephone company of the calls... if you have caller I.D. feature then you can give it to the phone company to block - I have it & it helps a lot (I know some numbers are: "unknown name, unknown number", but you have the time these calls are received. Give that info to your phone company & they will deal with it. Mine does. - Hope that helps, & good luck!

In my case that won't work as the bulk of phone calls I get are meant for the previous owner of our home phone number. Apparently "Connie" is having some financial troubles and my number is her last known number. Oh well.

Sign up for the do not call registry if you live in the US, that stops all those annoying calls.

Note to *macgirl* with the hope that you checvk back... I know what you mean but it's NOT YOUR land-line or anything to do on your side of things. It has to do with telemarketers & similar callers. I've gotten calls from a so-called Cruise line (recording) where I'm told I've won a 2 week cruise to Hawaii/Caribbean & if I hang up right away - I'm unable to make or receive calls for about 10-15 minutes. Last time I got 1, I listened to the entire message & found out I had to disconnect it myself (message: "If you don't want to be on our call list, press 6) & block the phone number through my phone company. Thankfully, it's a free service. These companies (for lack of a cruder term) have at their disposal devices that tap into the phone lines/wireless networks & dial numbers, do the spiel... then lock or loop the line so YOU can't end the call when you want to. It's only a matter of time before they're able to do this with cell phones... So don't be surprised if at some point in the near future (fewer people using land-line phones) you get the same crap happening on your cell. - My cousins living in Europe mostly have Scandiphones or another one (I can't remember the name, but they sent a pic - looks like a pyrimid)...

I hate my landline phones. They are in a special GHz to not interfere with our wireless networks (yes we have two). I'm not sure why but I'm unable to hang up on people without the phone ringing me back. So all of those annoying sales calls where it is just a recording, when I hang up it keeps ringing back until the other end cuts off. Maybe I should trade them in for that retro looking model above?
