Apple iWatch Patent

The Most Compelling Evidence That Apple's iWatch Is Coming

This is it — the Apple iWatch is coming. Back in February 2013, a patent for a wristbound device was filed by Apple. But today, the US Patent and Trademark Office awarded the company its most substantial smartwatch patent yet. This is the most compelling evidence so far that an iWatch that looks similar to the concept above is on it way!

GPS, an accelerometer, biometrics (health sensors), and a proximity locator will be included in the watch, according to the patent. The most exciting thing is the watch's "personal wireless environment" with which the wearable tech could communicate with a phone or computer. This is probably an extension of how your Mac can now text or call any number in Mac OS X Yosemite.

It was originally filed in 2011, and now Apple finally has the go-ahead to develop the device. Production has even been rumored to begin in July. Samsung and LG have already launched their own smartwatches for Android users, and the gorgeous Moto 360 is expected to debut this Summer.

Will this be the year that Apple unveils an iWatch and a bigger iPhone? Stay tuned — we'll let you know as soon as the wearable tech news breaks!
