6 New Beauty Gadgets That Will Make You Rethink Your Entire Makeup Routine

Jan 18 2017 - 4:55pm

Imagine a mirror that can tell you a bit more about your face and let you know if your skin care is working. Or a hairbrush that can help you fix your frizz or split-end problems. These are two new beauty gadgets that popped at this year's Consumer Electronics Show [1]. It was also the second year of the Beauty Tech Summit [2], cementing beauty's much-needed place in technology. Check out some our favorite devices from this year's show ahead.

HiMirror Plus

The HiMirror Plus [6] ($259, preorder) can do a lot: it can tell you if your skin has wrinkles, use five different light settings to help you put on your makeup, track your skin to see if anything changes, and plenty more. You can also control the mirror with your voice or through gestures and up to six different people can use it.

Kérastase Hair Coach Powered by Withings

Your hairbrush is getting an upgrade with the Kérastase Hair Coach Powered by Withings [7] ($200). The hairbrush will learn the health of your hair [8], such as if it’s dry or damaged. It can also analyze how you brush your hair and if it’s doing anything terrible to your hair. The Kérastase Hair Coach arrives later this year, in the Fall.

HiSkin

The tiny HiSkin [9] ($50, preorder) device works with the HiMirror to analyze your skin. Place the device on your skin and it’ll look at your hydration and melanin levels. You can use it on five different areas of your face: forehead, eyes, upper cheek, lower cheek, and chin. Then, turn on your HiMirror or the app to see what you can do to improve the health of your skin.

Sensor Mirror Pro

Apply your makeup in perfect lighting conditions with the Sensor Mirror Pro [10] ($250). It’s activated by motion, so walk by it and the mirror will turn on. The best part is that it can see what the lighting is like around you and mimic those same conditions. Or you can use it in the natural-light setting. The mirror also works with Alexa and can last on a single charge for four weeks.

YouCam

Test out different looks, shades of eye shadow, eyeliner, and more with YouCam Makeup [11] (free). Take a selfie on the app and try on different looks, all for free.

Ekko

Use your mirror for more than just putting on your makeup with Ekko [12] ($449). The Ekko is a mirror that can show you news, weather, and play music and is completely touch-free. The mirror is controlled through motion sensors on the side and can be used by a whole family.

This is the Ekko in action.
