Best Buy May Sell Used Video Games in Its Stores

Do You Buy Used Video Games?

Kotaku heard a rumor that Best Buy is flirting with the idea of selling used video games in their store, to which I say: woohoo!

Supposedly, the chain will try it out in a few stores as a test, and assuming that all goes well, you may have another outlet to buy used video games from.

Personally, I tend to buy games new by virtue of the fact that I need them immediately, as soon as they come out. However, if I'm just browsing the shelves for a few new games, I love scooping up a few used games to have.

What about you? Do you supplement your game collection with used games, or stick to buying them shiny and new?

I'll buy a new game if it's a new release, gotta-have kind of thing, or if it comes with other components (Wii Fit, Rock Band). Most console games we buy new, although we have some used. \ I almost exclusively buy used games for my DS though -- it keeps that wasteful packaging out of landfills and saves me a ton of money! Plus the media is very difficult to scratch or damage so I feel better about that.

Couldn't agree more. A nice little trick you can pull with Gamefly is getting hot titles into your game queue and put them at the top before they release. That way, when they release you'll get the brand new game shipped. Then, once you've got it, if you like it, you can use the "keep it" feature and you've just landed yourself a brand spankin new game right out of the shrink wrap on the cheap! And all the manuals and packaging will follow shortly thereafter.

Used is the best! I exclusively buy used games. It's the exact same experience for cheaper. What could be better?

I *LOVE* buying new games - I kid you not, I adore the new game smell (almost as much as book smell). However, I'm a big advocate for buying used - as long as you're not buying from a pawn shop, most places ensure their games and some even have CD buffers to make a scratched game play like new. If buying used will save me $10 or more, that's the route I go. If the difference is any lower than that (which is sadly the case for newer releases) I'll just buy new.

Not only do I buy them, I rent them first from gamefly so I know full well what I'm investing in before I invest in it. It's the try before you buy ideal. Honestly, I use gamefly pretty much exclusively. When a killer game comes along that I have to own I can just use their "keep it" feature and buy it at a discount which only gets bigger the longer you're a member and they send along all the original packaging and manuals too so it's just like buying off the shelf but at anywhere from 20% to 40% off of retail. Kinda a no brainer in this economy. And their quality control is impressive. Netflix could take a few pointers.

Yes I buy them, but only if I can inspect the disc first. If they make me buy it "sight unseen" first and then open it (likely still in the store) to check the disc, then I probably won't bother. Too many other places easier to shop at. They also need to do better than GameStop on new releases - 5$ isn't a difference-maker.

I'll buy some used ones if they're in good condition and if it's not a game that I must have. For instance, I bought a baseball game for Wii used but preordered Super Mario Galaxy and picked it up the day it came out.

If it isn't a game that I NEED to have then I will wait for it to become 'used' and cheap. No point in saving $5, I want to save a lot more than that. :-)

I have a few games that I bought new because I had to have them now but I'm fine with used games I've bought both of my Tomb Raider games (Legend and Anniversry) off of Ebay at great prices and they were in mint conditon now I'm just waiting and watching on a great price for TR Underworld plus a few other games.

Used works for me.

It depends on how recently the game was released and what platform it's on. I have a Sega Dreamcast, so it's pretty tricky getting new games for that one! For my PS2, I tend to buy used games. Although if an unused one is cheap then I won't say no! Xbox 360...just new games for now!

You get great deals and a personal favorite place to shop here in Portland, OR would be Play n Trade.

The game's fine if you just wipe all the data out that was there already, so why not? It saves me a little money, and if I keep the prior data I might be able to skip over the trouble spots =D. But if I'm super excited about a game, I'll just buy it new. Used games usually end up being impulse buys, since I feel justified that it's a little cheaper.

There are some games that I just have to have right away, or that out of loyalty or some kind of connection I just won't buy used. But I think used games are a wonderful thing and they are great for the folks who get to sell them and the folks who get to buy them.

I am totally addicted to buying used games. Some must-haves I get new (like Star Ocean last week), but there's other games that aren't really worth $70 that I'd like to play. Additionally, sometimes you can find rare games used that you wouldn't get any other way - excellent for feeding my JRPG addiction.

I have some 'must have' series/games that I buy new because I can't wait, but everything else I wait to trade for on Goozex.com As for buying used in stores, I find most of them are way overpriced...especially since I know they paid diddly for the trade in. If I can get the new version for only 5-10 dollars more why would I buy used?

My hubby and I bought Little Big Planet used, best thing we did! Was cheaper, was in mint condition - and I'm TOTALLY addicted ;) New or used, whatever takes our fancy and ends up being the cheapest - that is what I go for! :)

Buying used is the only way that my husband gets a game. Right now we just can't afford new games all the time and he has to trade in some old ones. Sounds mean but that's the rules.

Usually we are buying games that are just released. I WISH we were buying used games as we generally need 2 of everything we play. One for upstairs and one for downstairs for online co-op.

I hate to say it but I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to this.. I just get paranoid and wonder if the previous owner was gross and stuff. Besides I immediately form bonds with my games so I like to claim total ownership of them, and obviously it wouldn't be the same if someone had 'em before. No fresh manual smell for me. Yeah I know. :P The only games I've bought used are retro, brick-Game Boy games but if I can find it new, I buy it new.
