Brightly-Colored Cameras: Love Them or Leave Them?

These Pentax K-x DSLRs are nothing to scoff at — they come with 12.4MP sensors, a rear 2.7-inch live-view LCD screen on the back, shoots 720p HD video, and provide shake reduction, face detection, and image stabilization, all in a compact and portable body. But they also come in a variety of bright colors — ranging from a neon green, to orange — that I'm not sure I'm fond of. Color-splashed gadgets certainly aren't a turn-off for me, but drawing that much attention to a $650 camera seems a little dangerous. What do you think?

I like to be different so I want my camera to be a different color than everyone elses. A camera is going to draw attention no matter what color it is!

^^ agree. I wouldn't want one. When I use my SLR, I don't want to look amateur-like

Honestly, I think it cheapens how they look.

Woohoo!! I was wondering why DSLRs were always so plain and boring... Well, I understand why a professional would use professional-looking equipment, but I know quite a few hobbyist photographers that will be really excited for some brighter hues!

It's no different than Canon's powershots being neon & rainbow colored. Sure, the most expensive Power Shot is "only" $300, but let's be honest: People who are going to steal from you are going to recognize tech no matter what color it is. iPhones are black and white, but are so instantly recognizable it's unbelievable. Blackberries come in almost all subdued tones, but you still know one when you see it. If someone's going to be ninja-ing your tech, it isn't going to matter what color it is. Frankly, I think the OMFG BRIGHT COLORZ are good camo. They look more like a children's toy or a clunky underwater camera than an extremely high tech piece of equipment. And I'm fairly certain most common thieves don't know their tech that well.

I'm torn. I love the colors and think they are so much fun and more exciting then the traditional black or silver. But if I am going to spend $650 on a camera (a hefty investment) am I going to want something that looks almost childish?
