No Caps Lock: Google URLs Are Case Sensitive

Geek Tip: Google Is Case Sensitive

You know how sometimes your caps lock key is on and you'll accidentally type a URL into the search bar in all caps? I do it all the time, and the browser always directs me to the site, and corrects the URL, displaying it in its normal lower case. Well, there are some cases where this leave-it-be mentality doesn't work. Find out more after the break.

I just tried visiting Google News via GOOGLE.COM/NEWS and got an error message: page not found. Apparently, adding an all-caps suffix to a Google URL will not yield the desired results; I got the same error message trying to visit google.com/IMAGES.

Obviously, this is easily correctable by turning the caps lock key off. But landing on the error page after typing in a Google URL with no misspelling surprised me. I figured it would work the same, caps lock on or caps lock off. If you're guilty of the same caps lock laziness, save some keystrokes and turn the caps lock off!
