A Caribbean Resort Bans Cell Phones

I sometimes entertain the idea of going on a "gadgetless vacay" — no BlackBerry, no iPod, no iPhone and no laptop. As much as I would love some peace and quiet from my ringing, vibrating and blinking gadgets, I can honestly say that I like being somewhat connected. So when I heard the news that The Grenadines' Palm Island resort had banned the use of mobile phones on one of its beaches, I was totally shocked. Maybe a cell phone free zone, but not allowing guests to use mobiles, laptops or PDAs within a half mile of the resort's beach is a bit over the top. Since when were laptops considered so distractive? I guess if you are looking for an escape from modern technology, this is the place for you. I think I'd be voted off that island in no time.
