They're giving a bunch of DXs to students at Reed College to test 'em out, and my friend goes there so I'll have to ask him how it goes. I'm unconvinced, though. You won't be able to highlight, open multiple books at once when you're trying to study... it would be kindof a pain, I think, and you miss out on that new-book smell ;)

I certainly agree that the Kindle DX won't *replace* actual textbooks. It will probably replace many literature books, because those are easier to find in a bookstore anyway. It's too expensive for a college student, certainly can't be covered by financial aid [some fin aid actually does factor in textbook costs], and I'm betting it would be next to impossible to find ALL the books you need to use on the DX...my school used a lot of old books, with certain editions and translations, and a lot of them were out of print. How's the DX going to handle THAT? Also, it IS inconvenient for studying. You can't MARK any paragraphs or pages with it, and as far as I know you can't make little notes in the margins either. I'm going to grad school in Information, though, so I'm sure I could use it in some way...probably not for studying though! :D And OF COURSE Wii Sports would be one of the best-selling Wii games...YOU GET IT WHEN YOU BUY A WII. They've sold at LEAST one Wii Sports for every Wii sold...so yeah. That's not surprising in the least.

I would kill to have a kindle. I love the idea and when i go back to school in the fall, I'm probasbly gonna lobby to get a kindle for my text books. I agree with the comments about color. There has to be a way to add coloring options, esp as far as highlighting and the pictures are concerned. After hearing the rumors of the apple tablet, I'm hoping it won't hurt the sales of the kindle. The ipod is heavier than it looks so i wonder if the tablet will be heavy. the kindle is very light. once they have perfected the internet and color options, i will definatly buy a kindle

floppyfish, I'm also an elementary education student, and I thought just about the same thing. Once there's a bit more "interaction" with the Kindle or something like it (like you said, highlighting, etc.) We're probably going to be turning to e-readers a lot more often. The technology is still new, but I really believe it has great potential. Poor little elementary school students have to lug all of these textbooks around. An e-reader would take a load off their backs.

As an Elementary Education student I think the Kindle could replace my textbooks once it has better search, highlighting and the ablitity to colorizer pictures. There's gotta be a way to keep the 'e-ink' and add color pictures

In reply to the first story I'm completely convinced the Kindle would have replaced my text books! I would have given anything for this in Law School (first and foremost) and also in college...I think it would have saved so much money (you could never sell those text books back), and energy--the law school books were so heavy!! I would have loved this. I've been saying all along this should begin to be phased into to law schools.
