My understanding is you can keep your old voice plan if you like, you just have to add $30 for data.

Yes the data plan is included on that grid - I was just using the prices broken down as it will show on the bill and as previously announced for a direct comparison of the difference in prices. For example, I used $120 for the 1400 minute plan instead of the listed 150 in the grid - and broke out the $30 data plan separately. yes text messages are $30 unlimited - but why wouldnt we pay $10 instead if we never go over? We mostly use email not text. So according to the grid - the $149 plan, $39 for additional line, $10 for text messages which = my original $198 estimate.

Isn't the data plan included? And it's only $30 for the unlimited text messages. Here's an easy grid to see what I mean Click Here. But you're right - if you want unlimited data and text, it's going to run you about $190 for the 1400 minute family plan.

Geek you will love this: Based on the iphone prices released today I determined how much more it would cost my hubby and I to upgrade our current iphones to a 3g iphone. We currently have 1400 minutes family plan per month for $80, plus $9.99 fee for additional line, plus $40 total for each phone's data plan (which comes with 200 test messages each phone). TOTAL $129.99 If we upgrade our phone we will have to sign a new contract at new prices which breakdown like this: $120 for the SAME 1400 minutes a month, plus $9.99 fee for additional line, plus $60 total for each phone's data plan, and since they dont come with text messages, $10 total for each phone to get 200 text messages. TOTAL $199.99 So that is a $70 increase per month in fees alone. Add that on top of the 398 we would spend on 2 phones (199 each) - and we would spend $1238 over the next 12 months more than if we had just stuck with are perfectly good 2g iphones. But it does have GPS AND it comes in white :)
