Do You Care How "Green" Your Gadgets Are?

This past week, it was all about the iPod at Apple's "It's Only Rock and Roll" event. And although I was wooed by the exciting announcements, I was relieved to hear that Apple has made the new Nano environmentally friendly. From the MacBook Pro — which is rated EPEAT Gold, features a mercury-free LED backlit display, and is made from highly recyclable aluminum — to other gadgets like the new Nano, Apple is continually striving to be green with its environmental status reports for each gadget.

Samsung is another company that's working toward being greener with its environmental initiatives like recycling programs, and by introducing products like the Reclaim cell phone, which is built-in solar made from 80 percent recyclable materials.

As someone who's trying to lessen my environmental impact on Mother Earth, I do take into consideration what a product is made of before buying it (including my gadgets), but I can't say that's the only reason that sways my purchasing decision. What about you?

not really because i recycle them in the end. i would like to be more green in my tech but it's not a requirement since i'm green in a lot of other areas. i do my part!

eLdanae: I have to agree. I would purchase Apple products even if they weren't, but if all things were equal I would choose the more EP friendly version available. In some cases even if it was the more expensive option. I really wish that more companies would consider making their products in this way as I have tons of tech, and the most that I can do is remember to unplug things when I'm not using them. Hey, and adding a solar charger to everything would be awesome. Then I could sit outside at the local cafe and work.

It doesn't matter to me either way. I don't have that many gadgets and don't want them either.

It's sad to say, but if Apple wasn't all green, I'd still be buying their stuff.
