Do You Go to the Apple Store for Tech Help?

On Tuesday afternoon, the adorable Rachel McAdams was spotted in the Apple Store in Toronto getting some iPod help at the Genius Bar. This got me thinking. . . If celebs like McAdams and Elle Macpherson can swallow their pride by going into an Apple Store and asking for help, I'm wondering how much everyone else utilizes the Apple Store's staff and services? And when I say services, I'm not just talking about the added bonus of being able to meet men there!

I saw Antonio Banderas at the apple store in the grove in Los Angeles a few years ago...

I only went there once; to buy my iPod. However, the store is awesome. It has everything.

NO WAY do I go to the Apple Store! I think Macs are easy enough for anyone with at least a little geekiness to fix themselves (in the rare instance that something actually goes wrong).I don't often have problems with my MacBook, but when I do, I prefer to fix it myself. Then again, I do I.T. for a living, so I'm pretty good at troubleshooting.

I like to try and fix my babies myself. If I really can't and my friends can't fix it then I take it to the store but it's generally a last resort.

I've never needed to until my iPhone's glass broke. I would probably have my boyfriend go since he's technically-inclined (but not a Mac fan) for the same reason I have him take my car for servicing.

I went, and what an awesome people watching experience. I guess I am not hanging out in enough wifi coffee bars...

It seems like I am able to fix problems in between making my genius bar appointment and the actual appointment. I simply didn't show to my last one and the genius bar guy recorded it as a problem solved, etc. Then I get a survey from Apple about it and wrote in my survey I never went so I couldn't comment on the service. Then the store managers called me to ask if their genius bar guy lied about helping me with his paperwork. I felt bad for narking on the guy but didn't know how to cancel my appointment.

Don't freak out. Display problems rarely have to do with anything on your hard drive these days (back in os 9 we did see software issues cause display problems). Most likely what has happened is they either got a bad display or they missed a cable when they put it back together. Lesson learned? Back up your stuff girl! ;-)

Well right now I'm freaking out because I sent my mac in for service to get a new display and now they need to run more tests because something didn't work. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!?!?!?!??! I never got to back up my stuff and I miss my mac.

Well aren't you the sweetest thing! I don't like to dog the geniuses as some of them are quite excellent. Unfortunately some of them are just iPod swappers, meaning the bulk of what they do is take your broken in warranty iPod and swap it for a new one. It kind of bums me out that I have 20x the real world experience and knowledge but I can't be called an Apple Genius ;-)

I said all the time but you know when Apple doesn't have a solution macgirl is there to help and she always fixes my problem. For instance...apple has my computer now and I'm missing it terribly. I've noticed that geeksugar does not work well on internet explorer as it does with safari. APPLE PLEASE HURRY!!!

Never, unless the thing is completely busted (ie, I need a new part) and still under warranty. They are (mostly) idiots and pompous to boot, and I am offended that they call it a genius bar . . . maybe that's what makes them pompous. It's a cute idea like many things apple, but I don't think they factored in that most IT guys actually do think they are geniuses and that people who need help with electronics are incompetent. Just give them another reason, why don't you?"No, seriously, dude, I already tried that like 4 times. It really is fried . . . but knock yourself out . . . I'll just stand here and twiddle my thumbs."

Yeah I go to the Genius Bar whenever my iPod screws up. I find that the people at the SF Genius Bar are not necessarily very knowledgeable or in fact geniuses. They tend to try to push you to just buy a full priced new product because Apple just dropped a new version rather than actually trying to resolve the issue with the product you already own.It took them two months to fix my nephew's iPod Mini. They it stopped working again, I took it back and again they tried to get me to buy a Nano for him instead of figuring out what the real issue was with his Mini. Then when they found out my nephew uses a PC they tried to push me to buy a MAC for him. I just wanted his freakin' Mini to work again. Why would I buy a new one when you don't even know how to fix the old one?Ultimately my nephew whom I now call McGuyver fixed the problem with his iPod himself. It was the battery, it needed to be replaced and a dent needed to be removed from the casing. McGuyver did both and got his Mini back up and running.
