Facebook Will Simplify Privacy Settings Tomorrow

New Facebook Privacy Options Start Rolling Out Tomorrow

During a conference today in NYC, a Facebook VP announced new, simplified privacy controls will be rolling out to users starting tomorrow. No details were mentioned, but perhaps these are the same changes suggested by a different Facebook exec in an interview last week.

When I asked, most of you said you'd prefer more specific privacy controls instead of simplified and streamlined options. Here's what a few of you had to say about your Facebook privacy preferences:

  • "What's wrong with how it is now? i just went through the settings two days ago and updated everything that I wanted to show/not show." —Yesi Jukebox

  • "Even with the 150(?) current settings users don't have "complete" control. Facebook carefully chooses which settings you can control and they specifically choose to make it too difficult for most users to manage. Facebook should force everything public and the few that want to deal with that, will. The constant and almost intentionally poor revisions to how they handle user privacy issues are ridiculous." — Complexitii
  • "I don't trust them with a simple option. It's bad enough that I had to delete my work info, activities, etc, because they wanted to make all that public. The only choice was public or delete. No way I'm going to trust that if I tell them I'm a "private person" that they won't suddenly decide it's ok to share my photos with my networks or the whole Internet because they're redefining private again." — BeingRuth

Do you have an opinion on the privacy changes? Do you care? Are you tired of hearing about it altogether? Let me know in the comments!
