FYI, These Are the First People Who Might Live and Die on Mars

Well, there go your hopes and dreams of being one of the first people on Mars. In 2013, a European nonprofit named Mars One asked for volunteers to take a one-way ticket to Mars in 2024. More than 200,000 people applied, and Mars One just narrowed down the list to 100 people still in the running. In the end, 24 people will be chosen — that is, if all goes according to plan.

Of course, the whole training process will be captured on a reality TV show, and we'll get to meet more of the people who are physically and mentally up to the task. Until then, you can watch a trailer for the astronaut selection (above) and see the reaction of one of them, an English physicist named Ryan MacDonald, as he heard the news.
