Search engines like Google, Bing, and the like have already realized the importance (and popularity) of location-based search results but are generally only helpful if you know what you're searching for. Now, there's a new way to find out what's new and what's news near you. Fwix is a location-based search engine and news aggregator that displays recent headlines, photos, and upcoming events in your area.

Fwix's "summary view" presents a clean view of top news items and events including a map; use links on the left side of the page to narrow down the search results to include only news, events, photos, recent Yelp reviews . . . even local Twitter status updates — and you can even narrow your results by specific neighborhood. A search bar at the top of the page allows you to search local news and updates, and you can browse what's hot and happening in a large list of other cities, too.
