GM Tests Voice-Activated Facebook Updates

Voice Commands to Update Facebook While Driving: Bad Idea?

It's fair to say you'd have a hard time finding someone who agrees texting while driving is a safe practice but is using voice functionality any safer? According to GM, it is; the car manufacturer is testing functionality for voice-activated Facebook updates that drivers can make directly from their cars. The technology, which is part of GM's OnStar system, would also read Facebook and text messages aloud and allow drivers to select one of four preset messages from different buttons on the steering wheel.

Am I the only one who thinks this is just as dangerous as texting while driving? Hear more of my thoughts and share your own after the break.

Sure, you're not physically pressing the buttons on the phone, but you are diverting your attention from the road. My honest opinion? Keep social networking out of the car — at least for the driver. Last time we saw this type of technology in the news, most of you agreed with me. What do you think now?

The more distractions we have the less safe it is. Bad idea, BIG TIME!

I have a handsfree car kit in built in the car which is amazing as when the phone rings I don't have to look for it in my purse, untangle the headset, and adjust the volume. All I have to do is push a button from the steering wheel. Same for my iPod and choosing songs. But having Facebook integrated into your car is seriously ridiculous. If you can't leave your status update alone long enough to drive somewhere then you are posting way too much personal information. Please step away from your facebook account and go and get a life.

I am having serious issues voting on all sugar sites this a.m. Grr. And, yes, this is a HORRIBLE idea. Even if they say it's not distracting, it really is.

Hmmm, I voted "Bad Idea" as well, but it counted as "Not Distracting". Your poll needs to be fixored. I think doing anything in a car other than driving is a bad idea.
