The Gansevoort South Is a Geek's Delight

The Gansevoort South Is a Geek's Delight

This past weekend I was down in Miami for some fun in the sun action and I had the pleasure of staying at the Gansevoort South hotel. Still in its "soft opening" stage, (it's brand-spankin' new), I couldn't help but notice all the tech treats in my trendy hotel room, which I just had to share. First and foremost, the Gansevoort offers complimentary high-speed WiFi to its guests, which knock-on-wood seems to be the growing trend in other hotels as well.
Guestrooms also have chic 40-inch Sony LCD HDTVs hanging on the walls, a CD player that includes a free "Hotel Gansevoort by Day or Night" CD to rock out to, Dream Stereo alarm clocks with iPod docking stations (a must have in all hotels), and kitchenettes with Nespresso machines. Room prices are a tad on the expensive side, but I guess that's what you get for total plush beds and state-of-the-art technology!

that's cool about the new hotel - i can't wait to head back to miami to see what it's about. as for the wifi thing, i work in advertising and one of my clients is a hotel chain and they have free wifi...that's the most important thing ever. i was also on vacation last week and that was one of the key features that i needed when i was booking - to get wifi.

Hyatt hotels have these amenities too. It was a GREAT perk having it in the room to recharge ipods and iphones. :)

That's all well and good and everything but all I want is a hotel that will let me plug in my own geekery. I FINALLY found a wii over the weekend and happened to be staying out of town and couldn't hook it up to the RCA jacks on the tv??? WTF? That means I can't hook up my camcorder or anything and that is total tyranny! I can plug in my own alarm or computer so what's up with the tv? Hotels need to get on it and stop being so lame.

This hotel looks really lovely. The flat screen TV almost makes it hard to go outside, but you are in Florida. :) I'm completely surprised that more hotels don't offer free Wi-Fi. I stayed at a tiny little motel 6 in Idaho last year on a trip and they had free Wi-Fi. But then I stayed at a big fancy pants hotel in downtown Portland a few months ago and they charged for internet.
