Geek Out: Do You Ever Miss Your Old Gadgets?

The other night I was on the hunt for my mini external speaker, and in my searching journey, I came across some old — very old — gadgets. What was supposed to be a two minute search, turned into me pulling everything out, reminiscing and having this nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Every gadget pictured here has a fun story behind it, and I couldn't help but think about each one. Every sentence in my head started with, "Oh that (insert device name), I remember when I got that." Like the BlackBerry for instance. Which just so happened to be my first BlackBerry that I managed to convince my parents was the most perfect graduation present anyone could ever ask for. My friends got trips to Cancun, I got a BlackBerry — I was over the moon.

What about you? Do you ever find an old cell phone or camera that you kinda miss? Or ones that bring back a ton of old memories?

Oh I forgot to mention my Nintendo Gameboy Advance from '01 or '02 (in silver). Somewhere I have my first Gameboy Color from '98 in lime green. Also, I still have the Gameboy Printer and camera accessory. Whoa... memories. I used to be such a game freak then something happened. I don't know what  . Spyro The Dragon: Season of Ice and SSX Tricky were my go-to games.

There are a few gadgets that bring back memories, especially: - A Nokia 3650 cell phone in Silver. That was my first slightly advanced phone. I had received it as a birthday present. - My first mp3 player: Apple iPod Mini in Lime Green. I used the device from '04-07. - My silver Polaroid instant camera from either '99 or 2000. That was a birthday present and my first "nice" camera. - An old electronic "pocket" organizer w/ stylus that came out in the mid-90's. It was my father's and I loved it so much, he gave it to me a few years later. - A Panasonic video camera (mini tape) that I was given in '99 or 2000. Another birthday present and my first video recorder. I was obsessed with it and once I figured out I could add borders... I was in LOVE. :P I have kept all of these devices and whenever I come across them it takes me down the long road known as memory lane.

The only old gadgets I don't have anymore are crappy cell phones like the StarTak (sp?).

My first digital camera fit in an altoid tin. It was awesome. But my new camera is far superior and purple, so I guess it is time to let go.

OMG, yes. I loooved my little red Nokia phone with a passion. Until it fell out of my pocket when I was rushing to cross the West Side Highway one day with my dog. I looked down, saw the yellow light and oncoming traffic and knew it would be the phone or North. The second car ran it over but I still waited 'til the light changed, picked up the pieces and saved the flattened phone in a sandwich bag.

Ah! A Dell DJ! :) I knew like...one other person with one of those. I had one and everyone always wondered what the hell it was. Now I have an ipod classic, but my Dell DJ served me well for two years. I was sad when I wanted to upgrade to another one that they weren't making them anymore!

with the exception of my HTC tilt and my blacberry curve, i held on to EVERY phone I have ever had since my college days. i remember when they first came out with flip phones having having the trac phone looking phones, i thought i was going to pass out! that was it- phones couldn't get ANY better than the flip phone! i was the first of my friends to have one and I thought i was the hottest thing walking around campus. haha boy have times sure to change...now i have a phone that plays music, watch my fave tv shows, allows me to check my account status, play games, gps, take pics, and everything else u could imagine! BTW i have the iphone!

I love all my old gadgets so much. My old phones I can't bear to get rid of.... I still have the charger for my first camera phone so I can turn it on and look at my pictures. ALL my old digital cameras- my first one was a 3 megapixel kodak the size (and weight) of a brick.

I don't think I miss any of it as if it was superior in some way it would still be in use. I do have fond memories of most of them as many were "firsts" of their type of technology. I had a Sony Ericsson T610 that I waited and waited for it to be released in the US. Actually the first time I ever changed networks for a phone. Wasn't the last time though ;-)

Oh I have stories behind all my old gadgets. I had a plastic box break in my closet the other day and everything fell on the floor including three of my old cell phones. I too remember talking my Dad into why I needed the new phones for whatever reason I had come up with at the time! If I had all the money back that I had to spend on new cell phones in college, that I broke (two phones broke due to me dropping them into my car's cup holder that happened to have a drink in it - imagine that?), I would be much richer right now!

I miss my first gen RCA Lyra mp3 player from 1999. I remember it came with a 32mb memory card, and I thought it was so awesome.
