Geek vs. Nerd vs. Dork vs. Dweeb

Venn Diagram Explains Geeks, Nerds, Dorks, and Dweebs

Obviously, I don't think that "geek" is an unflattering term or characteristic. After all — geek is chic, right? Seems like a creative brain at GreatWhiteShark feels the same way. Check out the Venn diagram below that helps the tech-slang unsavvy navigate the difference between the confusing terms "geek," "nerd," "dork," and "dweeb."

Apparently "geek" is at the intersection of "intelligence" and "obsession" — hey, I'll take it! Does the word "dweeb" make anyone else think of '90s-era sitcoms?

It's interesting how nowadays it's cool to be a geek. Thanks Bill Gates.

I personally consider "geek" to be the highest compliment anyone can receive =) And there's a lot of overlap between nerds and geeks. I think geeks tend to be more obsessive about certain things, whereas nerds just love learning about everything they can, whether it's a hobby of theirs or not. "Dweeb" is the only one that's really always negative. "Dork" can just mean silly in a fun way. Like you call yourself a dork when you mean you don't take yourself too seriously. But no one calls themself a dweeb.

I respectfully disagree greenfairy; you can be geek chic. Mind you I'm totally not :P, but as a gag a friend and I (both PC) went into an Apple store just for kicks and those people are damned knowledgeable in their tech babble and they look soo good doing it, too. But I still hate them! :D Apparently I am a dweeb.

Hmm, i think socially inept + obsessive is a "spazz", not a dork.

This is old. And geek is NEVER chic. Just because you were glasses doesn't make you a geek, and certainly not 'geek chic', whatever that means. In average society, NO ONE wants to be ANY of these. You're either cursed to be one, or cursed to look upon them.
