Hollywood Studios Paying Over One Bilion Dollars For Digital Technology Rollout to Play Movies in 3D

Movie Theaters Going Digital So You Can Watch in 3D

It sounds like your TV isn't the only thing that's being permanently upgraded to digital — movie theaters will also be getting the digital conversion treatment!

Five Hollywood studios are going to help pay the bill to outfit theaters with digital equipment, which will cost over 1 billion dollars and convert about 20,000 movie screens.

What do we get besides crisp, clear images? 3D access, baby! There's at least one Jonas Brothers concert lined up in 3D so you better get your glasses on.

i think its neat to have a selection between regular movies and 3D. the 3d movies are great for kids, they are more interactive and keep their attention longer. i doubt, and hope that they will keep the standard movies as well.

I saw a movie in 3D not too long ago and was glad I'd done so (Beowulf). Most of the theaters I go to have already been upgraded, anyway. I have agree with macgirl, though... I'd pay more to go to movie theater with no texting teenagers.

We have some theaters that are a mix of both. I hate it when you get the old school one with the blips and hairs in the film. I would pay more for a better experience. Now if we could just do something about the movie texting teenagers... I think I would pay more to be without them too...
