How To Make Your Photo Subjects Look Thin

We all know the camera adds 10 pounds and while there are special, slimming cameras you can use to help battle the bulge, there are also some simple tips you can use to make sure your subjects are happy with the way they look on film.

Sublime Light features some great tips for keeping your friends feeling slim and trim. It's important to remember that lighting can be your best friend and worst enemy when it comes to photography, but it can't always be controlled. Some items you can control are:

  • Get up high - Elevate your position. Try standing on a chair or stool when you take the picture. Your subject will need to look up at you slightly, and in doing so will be stretching out the extra chin a bit, making it disappear behind the real chin. If your subject is on the larger side do not take his or her picture from a low angle.
  • Twist the body - Have your subject twist sideways with their feet (if standing), or twist their legs (if sitting).
  • Use the right lens - Be very careful with those wide angle lenses. They can be fun sometimes, but can really pack on the pounds.
  • For more suggestions, check out the Sublime Light guide.

Well, of course. I often hate how my own pix turn out, but at least I could easily save my family and friends from the same fate, with a few tips. Thanx.

This reminds me of one make-over show when one not-so-goodlooking girl told viewers how she met her husband despite her "unattractive , big " looks. She said she met her husband online and sent him photos of the "fattest and ugliest she could be iin photos" and still her husband wasn't turned off and instead proposed to her for marriage becausse he finds her "honest" and "unpretentious" . Mind you, they showed the guy on TV, and the guy was pretty handsome. And this reminds me of my friend who arranged for a date w/ a girl whom he met online. The girl seemed to be "thin" in the photos but when he met her in person, he was turned off ---not by the figure but by the fact that she was trying to deceive men online w/ her "thin" pictures. He said it's deception. yeah...these tips would not be harmful of course. It's just that there are so many demands today to be at least "honest" especially about finding our lifetime partners

i don't think this is about being deceptive - in real life people are twisted, generally - who stands straight on and looks at someone at eye-level? so, therefore - i don't see why taking a picture using the great tips Geek provided is doing any harm. I see pics of myself and I look really heavy but i think they're just bad pictures...other ones at different angles make me look totally different, but more like me rather than deceptively like a "thinner me".

excellent tips for looking thin, but stil...why can't we just embrace the way we look, whether we need to add a few pounds or lose a few?

All my guy friends say this is quite "deceiving" for those men who are looking for romance on dating websites. Girls who look thin in their photos turn out to be "not thin" in real life which is quite disappointing and deceiving for them when they meet them in person. They say it's better to be honest and be confident in your body and who you are because that makes them more "attraactive" to you rather than misleading them through pictures that you are not "wha you look like" exactly in person.

Luckily for the subjects of my photographs, I'm extremely tall. Thus, they will all look thinner! ;]
