How Small Should Our Gadgets Be?

My first complaint about the Apple iPhone is that it's bigger and heavier than my BlackBerry Pearl - the Pearl is 89 grams while the iPhone is a noticeably heavier 4.8 grams. Of course, browsing the internet is a more pleasurable experience on the iPhone because of its 3.5-inch wide screen...and still, I complain about its weight and size. If you look at gadgets released in the last couple of years, most of them have had the "nano" effect - going from the first (jumbo) iPod to the teeny tiny nano or even the shuffle. Do you think makers compromise on function in order to maker smaller gadgets and do you really care about size? Most importantly, how far are we going to take this mini craze?

I don't think the iphone is that big, when i first saw it i assumed it would be bigger, but it fits in my lil purse just fine. now my sidekick 3 would never fit in my purse...that phone is just to damn big and heavy.

i like something bulky that I can feel in my pocket/hands and something I can accidentally drop or sit on and doesn't break...I dunno, but I rather have something a little bigger - like the blackberry curve than something tiny like ipod nano...

I like a middleground. The smaller gadgets are, the more easily I lose them.

Middleground works for me. When something is too small then that gives me a higher probability of lossing it...just ask my keys pre-carbinger hook :rotfl:, so I stick with the bigger ipod and normal sized cell phone!!!

I like to throw my gadgets in my purse and go. The smaller the better for. That's probably why I carry so many.

there has got to be a good balance between the two. A little ting thing with no display, like the shuffle, and be a pain to work with. On the flip side, a big phone like the trio may not be worth it's weight.

Hey traceface, the iPhone winner was announced yesterday. Sorry for the delay, we had to wait for the winner to get back to us before we announced it on the site!

I like larger screens for web browsing and watching movies or tv shows but I like my Shuffle because it is small and great for working out. I use a regular size 4th gen iPod for the car and my husband has a Nano because he wanted a screen but wanted to be able to put it in his pocket comfortably. So it really depends on what I'm using the device for. I would mostly be using the iPhone for web browsing, email, and text message sooo the larger screen is nice (and oh so crisp!). The phone functionality is just a plus but not a reason for me to actually buy the iPhone heh.
