See Exclusive Photos of the New Marvel Lego Game Characters!

When it comes to playing video games and reading comic books, it's not always easy to see yourself as the heroes — especially if you're a woman. The lead characters of these series tend to be all male or hypersexualized female leads. But changes are finally happening, including in the highly anticipated game of Lego Marvel's Avengers.

The main focus of the new game, out on Jan. 26, is on characters and stories from The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. You'll also be taken into other worlds of the Marvel franchise, like Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The First Avenger.

But of course what really matters is choosing a character to play to achieve your missions. In this game, you'll get the chance to play as Jewel (Jessica Jones' superhero name), Ms. Marvel, Agent Carter, and several other female super heroines. Just like the previous edition, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, more than 100 characters will be part of the game. Chances are you won't be disappointed with how they look like. "We wanted to really do our classic comic book versions of characters justice," said Arthur Parsons, Games Director at TT Games.

New features in Lego Marvel's Avengers include using your character's special powers and finding secret areas. You're also encouraged to explore "Lego Marvel Manhattan" and seven other communities to unlock gold bricks and more people. The game will be available on Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Playstation Vista, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and Windows PC.

Considering the success Marvel's had with Jessica Jones and Agent Carter, it's exciting to see these characters come to life — especially in Lego format. Ahead, see exclusive photos of what the characters look like and get more insight into specific characters straight from Parsons.

"As a Lego minifigure, it's great to have a character who can not only fly around at high speeds, but is also able to lift up vehicles, rip chunks of earth from the ground to throw at enemies, and get some serious attitude," said Parsons. "I'm positive that gamers will get a great deal of satisfaction dealing some justice as Jewel."

"Kamala Khan was a serious labour of love. She is such an incredibly fun character to play as, with some very funny idle animations that will make people gasp at just how much flexibility a minifigure can manage," said Parsons. "She can shrink down to a tiny size like Ant-Man, but also grow to gargantuan size like Black Goliath. Add into the mix her ability to move her limbs in all manner of odd positions, and she will definitely be a fan favorite to play . . ."

"As soon as we saw that Lego was creating an official minifigure for [White Tiger], we were excited to get her into the Lego Marvel's Avengers," said Parsons. "Her special move is definitely something that can take down multiple enemies quickly, and her movements do justice to her comic book character. She really is a character that you want on your side while taking on the bad guys."
