Lindsay Lohan Jail Sentence Means No Internet Access

Geek Out: How Long Could You Go Without the Internet?

I know, I know, this isn't a completely fair question because of the popularity and affordability of smartphones, netbooks, laptops, and other portable devices, and the thought of actually going 'net-free seems a little far-fetched. But after not being able to tear myself away from yesterday's biggest news story about Lindsay Lohan heading to jail and the restrictions she'll face, I couldn't stop thinking about how long I could go without Internet access (Lindsay's only communication with the outside world will be done via a public pay phone).

I don't think I'd be able to make it for a full week — maybe three or four days at most. For now, it sounds like Lindsay will only have to wait 23 days to update her Twitter account; how long could you go?

Well, let's see I went about 15 years without internet before it was common to have access and I was completely happy without it, so... maybe 15 years? Well maybe not, but seriously I could probably go for a long time. I mostly just use it for fun. I could probably go for a couple of months until I'd really NEED it for something important. Side note: just last night my husband was telling me he thinks one day it's probably all gonna blow up and all of a sudden the internet will not exist anymore and everything on it will be lost. Um... let's hope not!

When I'm home or at work, 2 hours and I'd freak. But if I'm on vacation I can go a week or two, and if I had to go 23 days I could, obviously, if I was busy enough. I just feel I need it when I'm laying around or commuting because I get bored...or when I need to check out information on something like a map or a recipe. In jail, I wouldn't need those things! But in jail, I'd be dead bored!

Even to use Lindsay Lohan as the example for the question doesn't make sense. She's going to jail where she wont have the use of her smartphone or personal computer. I think generally the lack of the Internet is fare for those who are incarcerated (aside from online access to GED or college courses). I mean really, you're in jail. You're not supposed to have similar freedoms as if you were not in jail. But I digress from what was the real question,....I've gone a weekend without my cell phone and Internet, just to see if that was possible. It is. But only because I knew it was temporary.
