Locale App For Android Knows When to Silence Your Ringer

Geek Tip: Prevent Embarrassing Ringer Moments With Locale

Have you ever been in the middle of a movie and your phone starts ringing? I have, and it's totally embarrassing. Everyone is capable of forgetting to turn off their cell's ringer a time or two, whether it be in the theater, the office, or the courtroom. But with the Locale App for the Android G1, you'll never have to worry again.

With Locale, you can set up parameters that automatically change your phone's ringer to silent based on your location. Just enter addresses of places you don't want your phone to ring (either by entering the address manually, or using your GPS and map technology), and your smartypants cell will do the hard work for you. Locale is also great for remembering to turn your ringer back on after you've moved on to a different location, so you never miss an important call.

I'd be more interested in an app that let you set hours of the day or gave you the option of saying, "Be on silent for the next four hours" or however long. I always forget to turn my ringer back on.

thank you for including android apps, I'm getting tired of reading about iphone apps. sorry, but I will never own an iphone. anyway, the locale is also dependent on how well your GPS is receiving, so if you live in a place that sucks, then locale sucks. However, I use locale for other things (since leaving GPS on sucks up my battery). For example, setting my phone on vibrate automatically specified by the times I am at work. And of course defaulting back to ringer! It's great! I never have to worry about accidentally getting a loud ring at work or missing a call after work because I forgot to turn it off silent. A must have app.

I'm pretty sure I've heard about this. I was out to dinner with a few friends, and one of them mentioned he was working on this! I'll email him to confirm...so cool!
