Love It Or Leave It? Unintentional Laptop Bags

While there are some great laptop bags on the market, many of us - particularly women - end up transporting our laptops in our large bags. Sure, I protect my laptop with a sleeve, but I usually opt to fit it into whatever bag I am using for the day rather than carry a large official laptop carrier. Following that idea, Apartment Therapy's Home Tech site has a couple of bags that are summery, unique and made by designers in third world countries. The Postal Bag is a fully-lined messenger bag with raw edges, magnetic snap closures, and two inside pockets. It's bright red and being sold for $70 by a designer who grew up in South Africa. Also neat-looking is the Wonder lust bag, $30, which is handcrafted by artisans on the island of Madagascar and in Kenya, using renewable raffia fibers found there (and is pleasantly lined with cotton). Would you substitute a unique laptop sized bag for your traditional laptop bag?

I have a big laptop, so I cant get these cutsie little style bags, and besides, I dont care if traditional laptop bags are ugly to other people. A black bag isnt ugly to me, and they have alot of padding for protection. So I take function over style when it comes to something that my lively hood and employment depends on.

I think 'laptop' bags are ugly (and usually heavy!). I carry mine in my giant Prada shoulder bag and my colleagues use their oversized Gucci, Longchamp, etc. bags for theirs. Much prettier :) I do wrap my laptop in a protective wrap first though, to prevent dings and purse debris from getting in my keyboard.

Since I have a Macbook, I'm always afraid someone's going to steal I really would like a laptop bag that doesn't look like a conventional laptop bag, like tdamji said. And I agree with mh84..they are a little pricey. I would just get a regular messenger bag like suvana has to put my laptop in along with all your other things..that way you wouldn't have to spend so much money for a bag JUST for you laptop.

Yes, I love using something for other than what it was intended for.

US$30?!?! Jeeebuss!!! I should go to the US and make a fortune out of selling these! We have them rafia bags over here in Mauritius and if I am to convert the currency, then one like in the pic must cost US$5 !!! I never thought of them as laptop bags though, we use them to go to the market here :)

Got a fantastic old Fossil shoulder/messenger type bag that my laptop goes in along with all my other geeky junk - it has pockets galore. As tdamji said carrying a 'laptop case' is just an advertisement for thieves!

I used to have a "notebook bag", but my husband swiped it. Now I have a sleeve that fits in whatever tote I'm carrying. Word to the wise, pink is a great color on anything because a man won't touch it!

They look great but they're kinda expensive for simple bags like that.

at the back of my mind i am always worried about someone taking my laptop when its in one of those specifically designed bags, so something less conspicuous like these ones would be i love that they're designed in 3rd world countries.
