Mo Rocca Asks: What's Your Secret iPod Jam?

Let me start by saying that Mo Rocca is one of my favorite geek chic characters. In fact, I think he was one of the first mainstream TV personalities to make the look appealing and unassuming and keep his indie cred. So, when a reader named Tom sent me the link to this cute video of Rocca asking people their secret iPod jams he made my day.

I have to admit, one of my favorite things about MP3 players, aside from being the portable, amazing tools that they are, is the fact that I can bust out with a little Christina Aguilera, James Taylor or heck even Phil Collins if I want to and no one will be the wiser. What's your guilty pleasure song that you only dare enjoy through headphones?

I love to sing along with a princess song - think it's title is "Home". Yes a Disney princess song, from the CD "Disney Princess Hits #2," is my guilty pleasure. It is a song that Belle belts out after the Beast has swapped her out for her dad. No...it is not in the movie, only the stage version. And NO, my 4 year old doesn't really like the song. I do. Never heard it till my husband was suckered into buying a Disney Princess CD for his little girl at Target.

I have tons of guilty pleasures on my pod including the aforementioned ABBA's "Gold" album, Dolly Parton's Greatest Hits, Jessica Simpson's "These Boots are Made for Walking" and a few Air Supply tunes that shall remain nameless! I'll deny it if you tell on me...

Barry Manilow. Pretty much any Barry, but especially "Even Now." So many awesome key changes. So much sincerity. So very embarrassing.

Great story Sweet Tea. My guilty pleasure song would be anything by Backstreet Boys, N*sync & early Britney.

I'm not normally embarrassed by what's in my iTunes--and will openly share it while at coffeehouses. I'd almost say it has good representation that would please a rock snob, but...I have a weakness for the occasional pop-candy addition. (e.g. Hillary Duff-Come Clean, Mandy Moore-Candy). Recently, my music snob brother's mac crashed and needed to upload our shared music. I just burned a dvd of my music and sent it to him...he just dragged everything over and didn't sift through it. A few evenings later he had people over for cocktails at his loft and hit the lovely "Party Shuffle" function. Midway through the party Samantha Mumba's "Gotta Tell You" came on. Apparently there was some sort of action movie sequence of him diving across the room to change the song--but alas, it was too late--damage done. Cries of "Come on, guys!! It's my sister's!!" were met with "Yeah, sure...if that's what helps you sleep at night, dude."

Oh man, I forgot about Bug A Boo. I think that is one of mine too - I just repressed it. I don't think Lovefool should be kept secret. I say sing it loud and proud!

The Cardigans - "Lovefool" ...I love the song, but always feel uncomfortable even motioning to turn up the volume for fear that someone might catch the tune! It's just this song though, most of the Cardigans' other songs I don't mind. The same goes for Zero 7's "Somersault" and Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn."
