Pinterest's New Look: Bigger Pins, Better Discovery

We're pinterested in the photo-sharing site's latest update, where bigger is certainly better. Pinterest is making pins larger and pin discovery more effective in the new look, which rolls out to all users starting today.

The updated Pinterest dashboard will have a navigation button that's in line with the search bar. The new categories view for web looks like the Pinterest mobile apps, with icons for each pin type.

The pins themselves are larger, and you'll also see more pins from the same board, related pins, and other boards the pin was pinned to (click on the screenshot above to see the entire pin view close up). All of the new information is displayed alongside the pin, instead of below it, which is intended to promote better content discovery and encourage users to keep clicking through (bad for our addiction).

Pinterest is offering a suite of new features recently, including Pin Web Analytics for website owners which was introduced last week. Once you get your invite, switch to the new look and let us know: is bigger really better?

I've been using the "new look" paradigm and although there are many things I like about it, it is riddled with problems. Here are a few: - "Followers" and "Following" does not automatically update. - Boards do not update with new pins. - You will need to update some Board Covers because of the new larger image size. - the new "Change Board Cover" has issues in that it thinks you want to "move" the board... you will have to exit the browser window, go back to pinterest and try again. (intermittent problem) - The Pin Count on boards does not always update after pinning new content. - "Remove from Group Board" does not work. - Newly pinned images will sometimes not show on boards and are instead replaced with "phantom" duplicates of existing pins. If you delete the duplicate, you will also delete the original. Your new pin will, however, show up under your "PINS" tab as pinned to the board. If another user has repinned one of these new pins, it will not show up on their board either.
